Clarion Divers Sweep Boards At Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Golden Eagle men’s and women’s divers competed at Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon, with Clarion competitors sweeping the top spot in all four dives on the day.

Alexa Gonczi paced the field in the first event of the afternoon, winning the Women’s 3-Meter Dive. The sophomore scored a 250.73 to rank atop the 12-diver field. Luna Castellanos was fourth in the group, scoring a 226.50, and Victoria Watkins placed sixth overall with a mark of 213.60.

That gave way to the Men’s 1-Meter Dive, with Golden Eagles taking the top two spots on the board. Zach Schering placed first with a score of 271.43, while Jordan Morret took second with a mark of 239.70. Later in the afternoon Morret was the top finisher in the Men’s 3-Meter Dive, scoring a 266.55 to win the event, while Schering placed third with a 241.73.

Rounding out the day on the women’s side was the Women’s 1-Meter Dive, where Castellanos led the 13-diver field. She scored a 253.80  for the top spot on the board, with Gonczi placing fourth by scoring a 235.95.

Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State men’s and women’s diving programs delivered impressive performances against Clarion University in the dual-meet held at Beeghly Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

In both the women’s one-meter and three-meter, YSU finished three divers in the top five.

In the three-meter, Kayla Wrasman finished an impressive second with a score of 244.20. Dasha Toth was just behind in third, scoring a 235.05. Tess Weiskopf rounded out the top five with a score of 225.15.

Weiskopf earned the second-place nod in the one-meter, finishing with a score of 246.38. Wrasman finished third, scoring a 242.33. In fifth was Ellen Linscheid, who scored a 234.45.

Simon Iwanonkiw led the Guins in the men’s three-meter, scoring a 243.08 to finish second. Cody Thill also placed in the top five with a score of 232.43 to finish fifth.

Zachary Lao finished top three in the men’s one-meter dive, delivering a score of 238.58 in his third-place performance.

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs will return to action next Saturday as they head to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison before travelling to compete at the Butler Invite in Fishers, Ind. on Sunday.

Competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. against Denison, while the Butler Invite is scheduled to start at noon.
