Kacper Stokowski Shooting for 19 & 43 in Backstrokes at NCAAs

NC STATE VS. TEXAS – DAY 2

Reigning NCAA champion in the 100 back Kacper Stokowski threw down in Austin this weekend, taking wins in the 200 back (1:41.3) and 100 back (45.6) before posting the #1 time in the country in his pet event while leading NC State’s 400 medley relay (44.7). Stokowski is keeping the focus on March, admitting he would like to break the 44-second barrier in Minneapolis as well as see someone crack 20 seconds in the 50 back.

I wondered last year, if 2022 was the last year when a 44 wins 100 back at NCAAs.

So nuts that Urlando was 43.3 and Stokowski won in a 44.0

I would be surprised if there’s not 3+ guys under 44 this year

I just don’t want to need to buy pants with a waist size above 36.

The relativity of the human experience is a wondrous thing.

For how much crap Grant House gets for being 24 and being in the NCAA for too long, Stokowski seems to get no criticism for being the same age…

people probably don’t realize his age because he’s not a 6th year like House. Also he’s European so age and school is different

It’s just generally accepted that the internationals are a bit older. I think on avg, an international freshmen is like, 18 months older? I forget where I read that, but probbaly also on this website.

Stokowski also hasn’t been in the NCAA as long

The Aussies are often younger than the Americans. Some of ours are still 17 when they finish year 12.

I’m pretty sure that statistic is on swimcloud. They mention it because they rate LCM and SCM much harsher than SCY on their power index because international freshmen are older.

I’m excited to see a rested 200 backstroke from Stokowski!
