COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State synchronized (artistic) swimming team continued its 2023 season Saturday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion with the Jessica Beck Memorial Competition. The team earned an overall score of 104 points to defeat Texas Woman’s University (65 points) and Michigan (42 points).
Showcasing its team routines for the first time this season, Ohio State took first and second on the day. The scarlet team of Emily Armstrong, Nikki Dzurko, Rose Homoelle, Paige Hopper, Olivia Malloy, Reverie Nedde, Ruby Remati and Emma Spott earned a score of 83.4417 to take first. The gray squad of Madi Almond, Victoria Carlson, Marian Catahan, Charlotte Gray, Lilly Ortiz, Trinity Patton, Olivia Schafer and Carolina Walsh was second, scoring 79.1167 points. Michigan took third (61.3250).
In solo, Dzurko earned her second win of the year in the routine, scoring an 85.200. Homoelle followed in second with a 79.4417. Both Buckeyes improved their scores from the season-opener. Ashley Latchford of Texas Woman’s University finished third (78.4000) followed by Michigan’s Isabella Balza (66.7833) and TWU’s Eva Montenegro (59.1917).
Armstrong and Remati won the duet category with a score of 82.7083. Trinity Patton and Victoria Carlson paired up to finish second on the day, earning a season-best 72.600 mark. Texas Woman’s University’s Maribella Falconer and Kim Poitras (70.7750) and Candela Fidalgo and Regina Ramirez (70.7417) took third and fourth, respectively.
Earning their second straight first-place finish was the trio of Dzurko, Hopper and Spott. The Buckeyes recorded a score of 82.7333 for the win. TWU finished second through fourth and Michigan finished fifth and sixth.

The Buckeyes hit the road for the first time this season, splitting the squad to travel to Michigan and California. The gray team will travel to compete at Michigan on Feb. 11 and the scarlet squad will compete at the Stanford Invitational on Feb. 11-12.
