LEN Women’s Champions League: All Eyes On Spain & Greece

Courtesy: LEN

The first legs of the Champions League Women quarter-finals are heading to the greater Athens and Barcelona area. All four clashes promise outstanding excitement.

Three Spanish, two Italian and Greek sides apiece and a Hungarian team reached the most crucial phase of the competition and unlike in the past years, when the losers got some consolation and could play for the LEN Trophy, this time only the winners retain the chance to lift a trophy this season – the four defeated clubs’ European quest will end after the second leg.

The big match is held in Piraeus where title-holder Olympiacos clash with Spain’s emerging side Mataro, which beat the former No. 1 side of the country Sabadell a couple of times this season. This duel is a real hit, too bad that only one of these teams can make the Final Four.

The other three encounters are also wide open, so Spain, whose national team is the reigning European champion, can have three teams in the F4, but none of their clubs can take anything for granted.
