Florida Southern’s Ludwig Mueller Wins Elite 90 Award For Men’s Division II NCAAs

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College’s Ludwig Mueller is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Division II Men’s Swimming Championship, announced by the NCAA Wednesday night in Indianapolis.

Mueller, majoring in Computer Science: AI & Machine Learning, currently carries a 4.0 GPA in his junior year at Florida Southern. Mueller was presented with the award during the NCAA Swimming Championships Wednesday evening finals session in Indianapolis, Ind. Mueller is the eighth Moccasin awarded the Elite 90, and the second from men’s swimming. Courtney Charneco was the last FSC student-athlete awarded the honor in 2017-18 women’s volleyball national championship. Robbie Swan was the last from men’s swimming awarded the Elite 90 award in 2012-13 championship.

The Plauen Saxony, Germany native is in Indianapolis for the national championship representing the Mocs in the 100 breast, after qualifying in the 200 breast two years in a row. The junior is an All-American in the 400 medley relay and a three-time Honorable Mention All-America winner with the 200 breast the last two years. A podium finisher in the 100 breast at the SSC Championships, Mueller qualified with a time of 54.35. In addition to his success in the pool, Mueller is a CSC All-District, D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award, CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, and SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll winner.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
