Gretchen Walsh: “It’s such a privilege to even be able to say that I’m on this team”

2023 NCAA WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gretchen Walsh shares what it was like winning the 100 freestyle tonight and helping Virginia win their third team title. Walsh, only a sophomore for Virginia, took home 6 golds and one silver at this meet and broke several NCAA records in the process. Most notable was her 48.26 in the 100 back.

i’m still in pain that she didn’t take dow that american record. She was so close. Who cares as long as she’s happy with the swim.

Maxine getting the shout out by 2 goats must be pretty cool.

Maybe I’m jaded but when you’re a bona-fide superstar setting multiple national records it just comes off as kinda corny to be like “omg I’m just so lucky to even to be here”

Ugh. What is wrong with you people? No, she didn’t say that. She is offering her genuine gratitude and love for her team, which is everything in college. She is saying that she couldn’t do what she does- set records- without the team’s training environment and culture of support. Get the stick out of your butt.

Well put Alexander. The UVA team is first class. Alaverga should get the stick out, along with his/her head.

she is lucky- she swims with other goats that make her as fast as she is. Not to mention, there is the desorbo effect, whatever that is.

Both Gretchen and Alex are anything BUT corny. They are twice as great as people and teammates as they are as athletes. Congrats to the Walsh girls and the UVA squad on all their accomplishments!
