Destin Lasco on Winning 200 Back, Nearly Breaking Ryan Murphy’s Record

2023 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Destin Lasco, the reigning champion in the 200 back, won it again last night with a time of 1:35.87. Lasco, a junior for Cal, was only .14 seconds off of Ryan Murphy‘s record from 2016.

Lasco details how this season has been unique for the men’s program–with Dave Durden working double time–and how explains how the team relied more on each other than ever before. “Asking your teammates for help is not a sign of weakness, it’s strength,” Lasco said, “because you want to get better as a unit.”
