It’s tough to pick just one Leon Marchand race from last week’s record-breaking barrage, but his 400 IM victory in 3:28.82 was in a different stratosphere.
Racing against a stacked field featuring former NCAA record holder Hugo Gonzalez and World Championships silver medalist Carson Foster, Marchand was in a league of his own as he crushed his previous NCAA and U.S. Open record by nearly three seconds en route to a dominant six-second win.
This is your LIVEBARN Race of the Week because expectation for Marchand were sky high after he broke the NCAA record in the event twice already this season, but the Arizona State sophomore still managed to blow those out of the water. The owner of the top three times in history and seven of the 10 fastest swims ever, Marchand is now more than four seconds faster than anyone else has ever been.
