Stanford Unanimously Sits Atop Collegiate Water Polo Week 12 Women’s Varsity Polls

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Stanford University and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain at No. 1 in the Division I and III ranks after 12 weeks of varsity competition as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2023 Week 12/April 5 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Stanford – which claimed the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) title – and Pomona-Pitzer – which garnered the USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship – in 2022 remain favorites to repeat as champions during the 2023 campaign.

Princeton University remains at No. 1 in the CWPA Division I Top Five Poll, while Augustana College ascends to the top spot in the CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.

2023 WOMEN’S VARSITY NATIONAL TOP 25 (WEEK 12/APRIL 5)

Stanford University continues to rate as the best team in the nation as the 2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Week 12/April 5 Poll is released.

The Cardinal (100 points) remain a unanimous top selection.

The University of Southern California (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (91 points), the University of Hawaii (88 points), the University of California (82 points) and the University of California-Irvine (78 points) hang on at No. 2-to-6, respectively, while Princeton University (75 points) and Long Beach State University (75 points) continue in a tie at No. 7.

Fresno State University (67 points) stays at No. 9 with the University of California-Davis (62 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (58 points) exchanging the No. 10 and 11 slots.

University of the Pacific (56 points), the University of Michigan (55 points) and Harvard University (44 points) remain steady at No. 12-to-14, while Loyola Marymount University (42 points) jumps to No. 15.

Indiana University (38 points) and Wagner College (38 points) rise into a tie at No. 16 with the University of California-San Diego (35 points) holding at No. 18 and Arizona State University (33 points) slipping to No. 19.

San Jose State University (22 points) and Brown University (22 points) are tied at No. 20, California State University-Northridge (13 points) moves up to No. 22, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (10 points) and Long Island University (10 points) are locked at No. 23 and San Diego State University (6 points) stays at No. 25 to complete the polling.

2023 WOMEN’S VARSITY DIVISION III TOP 10 (WEEK 12/APRIL 5)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues at No. 1 in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Week 12/April 5 Poll for the 2023 season.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (95 points), the University of La Verne (88 points) and California Lutheran University (85 points) remain at No. 1-to-4, respectively, with the University of Redlands (76 points) and Augustana College (76 points) both moving up to tie at No. 5.

Chapman University (65 points), Austin College (56 points), Whittier College (52 points) and the California Institute of Technology (37 points) complete the Top 10.

2023 WOMEN’S VARSITY COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION TOP 5 (WEEK 12/APRIL 5)

Princeton University continues at No. 1 in the 2023 CWPA Division I Top Five Week 12/April 5 Poll.

The rankings remain relatively unchanged from last week’s balloting as Princeton (100 points), the University of Michigan (95 points), Harvard University (90 points), Brown University (85 points) and Saint Francis University (80 points) continue as No. 1-to-5.

The lone adjustment occurs at the top spot as Princeton receives all 100 points to become a unanimous No. 1 selection.

2023 WOMEN’S VARSITY COLLEGIATE WATER POLO ASSOCIATION DIVISION III TOP 5 (WEEK 12/APRIL 5)

Augustana College terminates the reign of Austin College at No. 1 in the 2023 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Top Five rankings as the Viking take over the top spot in the Week 12/April 5 poll. 

The runner-up to Austin at the 2022 CWPA Division III Championship, Augustana (100 points) acquires the position of a unanimous top pick following a defeat of 2020 and 2021 CWPA Division III Champion Austin (94 points) over the weekend.  The Vikings – which claimed the CWPA Division III-West Region regular season crown and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league championship at Macalester College – and CWPA Division III-West Region runner-up Austin are followed by CWPA Division III-East Region regular champion Connecticut College (89 points) which moves up to No. 3 in the league poll.

CWPA Division III-West Region Third Place finisher Macalester (85 points) stays at No. 4 with CWPA Division III-East Region runner-up Washington & Jefferson College (82 points) backing up to No. 5.
