BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 16 Indiana put up a tough battle on Senior Day but ultimately fell to No. 13 Michigan, 9-8, at Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center.
KEY MOMENTS
- Indiana (15-12) got off to a hot start, taking a two-goal lead off scores from seniors Zoe Crouch and Robyn Greenslade. Michigan (19-9) got on the board with a counter goal at the 5:19 mark but sophomore Sophia Sollie added to the tally with her first of the day to make it 3-1.
- Sollie would score again 47 seconds later, keeping IU’s lead at two goals, 4-2. Indiana took a 5-3 lead headed into the second. The Wolverines would tack on two-unanswered goals as the Hoosiers had a couple chances on the attack in the final minute but couldn’t come up with anything as the game went to a 5-5 tie at the break.
- Michigan continued its offensive pursuit with back-to-back goals to open up the third quarter. Crouch would connect on her second goal of the afternoon at the 3:19 mark on a 6-on-5 opportunity that hit the post and dropped in the back of the goal to keep IU within one, 7-6.
- With a just over a minute remaining in the third, UM added another to take an 8-6 lead going to the fourth where it increased its lead to three on a 6-on-5 opportunity. But Indiana battled to the end, as Sollie added her third and fourth goals with under three minutes to play but couldn’t get any closer.
NOTES
- Sollie led the way with four goals while Crouch had a hat trick and Greenslade added one.
- Graduate student goalie Mary Askew had 15 saves and a team-high four steals.
- Indiana had four assists on its eight made goals.
- Sollie and sophomore Skylar Kidd each drew an exclusion.
