Futures Champion Tristan Prizler Sends Verbal To Northwestern (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tristan Prizler has announced his decision to continue his education and swimming career at Northwestern University, beginning with the 2024-2025 season. Prizler, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, attends Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio.

I am ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to Northwestern University! I am grateful to be given the opportunity to continue my career as a student-athlete at the next level. Being able to both study and swim at Northwestern is a long-time dream come true. I would like to thank all my coaches that got me to where I am, especially Coach Kevin Weldon, and I would like to give a special thanks to my parents and sister who have been my #1 supporters from the start. I am looking forward to my time at Northwestern. Go ‘Cats!! 🟣⚪🐱”

Prizler trains year-round with the Dayton Raiders, and is a distance freestyle specialist. He capped off his long course season last summer with a victory in the 1500m freestyle at the Geneva Futures Championships. Prizler swam a personal best time by over ten seconds, stopping the clock at 15:58.97.

This spring he competed at the Ohio High School State Championships, where he earned his highest finish at 3rd in the 500 freestyle, dropping just over a second to post a final time of 4:30.59. He also competed in the 200 IM, where he took 4th in a season best time of 1:53.12 in prelims.

Top SCY Times:

  • 500 free – 4:30.59
  • 1000 free – 9:16.98
  • 1650 free – 15:34.12
  • 200 IM – 1:52.69
  • 400 IM – 3:58.45

The Wildcats finished 7th out of 8 teams at the 2023 Big Ten Championships in February. Every athlete who competed in the 1650 at Big Tens scored this year, but it took a 15:22.97 to break into the top-16. Prizler is outside of that range now, but still has over a year to continue to improve before arriving in Evanston.

Ryan King was Northwestern’s top finisher in the 1650 this season, coming in at 12th with a season best time of 15:15.63. The only other swimmer entered in the event from Northwestern was Alex Ispas, who was 21st with a 16:03.65. With no incoming freshman specializing in the 1650, Prizler’s arrival is key as Northwestern rebuilds their distance group.

Prizler joins Maryland native Kyle Wang in Northwestern’s class of 2028. Wang focuses on freestyle and butterfly, owning best times of 1:49.28 in the 200 fly and 1:39.63 in the 200 freestyle.
