Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Dylan Magda out of Pittsford, NY has declared his intentions to swim for Marist College this fall. Magda currently swims year-round for Victor Swim Club under head coach Michael Murray, who was named President of the American Swimming Coaches Association in September 2022.
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming career at Marist College! A giant thank you to Coach Randall for providing this tremendous opportunity and to Coach Mike Murray and Coach Kevin Weldon for their continued support and guidance through this process. A huge thank you to my family who have been there every step of the way. I can’t wait to be a Red Fox!”
Magda represented Pittsford High School this spring during his senior season of high school swimming. At the 2023 New York State Public High School Swimming Association Championships, Magda contributed 17 points with two top 16 finishes. In the 200 yard freestyle, Magda raced to a personal best time of 1:44.24 in finals to place 16th. Later in the meet, he placed 9th overall in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.61. Magda’s prelims time of 58.32 in the 100 breaststroke was a personal best as well.
At the club level, Magda recently completed his final short course season as an age group swimmer at the Niagara Golds Championships. At the championships, Magda had several notable performances with five top 8 finishes and four best times. His highest placement of the weekend was in the 200 breaststroke where he placed 3rd overall with a new personal best of 2:07.14. Magda also had top finishes in the 100 free (7th), 200 free (8th), 100 breast (6th), and 200 IM (8th).
Top Times (SCY):
- 100 free- 47.51
- 200 free- 1:44.24
- 500 free- 4:46.07
- 100 breast- 58.32
- 200 breast- 2:07.14
The NCAA Division I Marist College men were runners-up at the MAAC Championships this year. Ahmed Sallam led the Red Foxes with two gold medal finishes (50 free, 100 free) and one silver medal finish (200 free). James Conable won the 400 IM for Marist College with a time of 3:54.88.
Magda, with his current best times, would have made an immediate contribution to the Red Foxes at their conference championships. His time of 2:07.14 in the 200 breaststroke would have placed 13th this year in prelims at the MAAC Championships. Magda’s 100 breaststroke time of 58.32 would place him just outside of scoring range in the event this year. Magda is the first commitment for the Marist College men’s class of 2023.
