Abbey Weitzeil seems to have found a formula that’s working for her, as the Cal sprinter took wins in Westmont this weekend in the 50 free (24.5) and 100 free (53.3). Weitzeil says the break she took last summer was much needed and it allowed her to come back with a new mindset that focuses on being the best athlete she can be at all times.
I’m glad to see Abby’s success. However, I find her lack of support for the female swimmers who suffered under Teri disheartening. As a pro at Cal, and Speedo athlete, she should be more supportive of the women’s team.
Who says she isn’t? I heard no mention of anything regarding that in any interview

“New approach to swimming” lol! How sad is it that taking a break is considered a new approach in this sport. Who woulda guessed that doing the exact same thing every day for years and never getting a break would negatively affect an athlete. HELLOOOOOOO SWIMMING!?!?!? Everyone needs a break! Now if they can start doing that with all swimmers (especially the younger ones), the sport might have the ability to retain people. Good for her…sometimes common sense is desperately needed.
So happy for Abbey – Terri gone is really working for her I think. Hoping her and Gretchen make the Worlds team.

I love seeing her bounce back and swimming so fast this season. Hopefully her fast times puts all the other American women sprinters on notice so we can put together some fast relays.
Was at the meet and loved watching. Excited to see what she does this summer and next.
really consistent last two meets. Looking forward to see what she has coming 24.1/52.6 would be solid. I feel like her 100 she should have some time drop coming. The 50 I don’t know if she can have much of a drop but hopefully it also comes.
