Leon Marchand surprised himself in his last swim of the weekend in Westmont, blasting a 1:55.68 200 IM that broke the Pro Swim Series record from 2012 held by Michael Phelps. Marchand said he wasn’t worried about the first 100, knowing he trains a lot of breaststroke and can use that strength to take over the race, which is exactly what the NCAA champion did.
Of course, he’s very strong in breaststroke but I think he wouldn’t have to rely just on his breastroke. He must be able to be at the same level, or even ahead, of a Foster or a Casas halfway through. If he wants to achieve big times. And Foster, Casas and the others will also continue to progress in breasstroke.
Also, does anyone know if Marchand will be taking part in the final leg of the Pro Swim Series in May at Mission Viejo ?
Umm… It may not just be Phelps 400IM WR on watch… Lochte’s 200IM WR could be on watch before Marchand is done…
400 IM WR not happening
Sub 4 minutes is worth arguing against, but Leon is taking that record before 2025
No he isn’t.
You do realize Marchand is already within half a second of it and by all accounts, he’s even faster now, right?
