Continental, American Records Fall on Day 3 of 2023 Para Swimming World Series

2023 Para Swimming World Series

Several more American Records fell on the second day of the Para Swimming World Series stop in Minneapolis. As a reminder, this meet is serving as the only qualifier for Team USA for the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships later this summer.

In the women’s 400 freestyle, Paralympic champion Morgan Stickney led an all-Team USA podium, breaking the Americas Continental Record in the process with her time of 5:03.16 in the S7 class. Fellow S7 swimmer McKenzie Coan grabbed second in the race with her final time of 5:14.85, with Morgan Chambers taking the bronze from the S13 class (4:33.75).

In the men’s 50 freestyle, Frenchman Ugo Didier took the win out of the S9 class with his final time of 25.97. Paralympic bronze medalist Jamal Hill took the silver medal in a 26.25, also competing in the S9 class. American Noah Jaffe nabbed the bronze medal in 27.54 in the S8 class, also grabbing his second American Record of the weekend.

Didier also won the men’s 400 freestyle, posting a final time of 5:23.64. The American duo of S8 competitors Matthew Torres and the aforementioned Jaffe finished second and third in the event, swimming times of 4:30.33 and 4:42.19, respectively.

Five-time Paralympic medalist Elizabeth Marks earned two medals during the session, finishing first in the 50 butterfly (37.00) and second in the 50 freestyle (33.78), competing in the S6 class. Brazilian Maria Carolina Gomes Santiago took first in the 50 free, swimming a time of 26.72 in the S12 class. Irish swimmer Nicole Turner touched second to Marks in the 50 butterfly, dropping a time of 37.87.

Another Elizabeth, Elizabeth (Lizzi) Smith, claimed first in the women’s 100 butterfly out of the S9 class with a time of 1:09.09. S14 swimmer Lawrence Sapp took the men’s race with a 57.16.

Paralympian Abbas Karimi led the field in the men’s 50 butterfly, dropping a 37.46 out of the S5 class. He was followed by Mexican S6 swimmer Jesus Alberto Gutierrez Bermudez, who touched in a time of 34.58.

The Australian team didn’t bring any athletes to this event, but if you are looking for their worlds roster it was posted in their Instagram!
