Georgia Colborn, a junior swimmer from Newark, Delaware, has declared her intentions to swim for Auburn University beginning in the fall of 2024. Colborn is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, as well as a US Open qualifier in the 200 butterfly.
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Auburn University!” Colborn said. “I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches for helping me get to where I am today! Also, I would like to thank the coaches at Auburn for giving me this opportunity. I am so excited to be a Tiger! WAR EAGLE!!!!!”
Colborn swims on her high school team at the Charter School of Wilmington. At this year’s Delaware High School State Championship, Colborn was a two-time state champion in the 100 fly (55.63) and the 100 back (55.27). The Charter School of Wilmington women were runners-up at the 2023 meet, finishing a mere six points shy of first-place Ursuline Academy. At the 2022 Delaware High School State Championships, Colborn touched 1st in the 100 fly final (56.13) and 2nd in the 100 backstroke (56.35).
Colborn trains at the club level with the Western Branch YMCA Wahoos. At the 2023 YMCA National Meet, Colborn finished 25th in the 100 back (57.22). Colborn also competed in the 100 free and 200 back. Last summer at the 2022 YMCA Long Course National Championships, Colborn was a two-time finalist in both the 50m butterfly (24th) and the 200m butterfly (21st).
Top Times (SCY):
- 50 free – 23.96
- 100 back – 55.27
- 200 back – 2:00.84
- 100 fly – 54.35
- 200 fly – 1:58.95
The Auburn women placed 7th at the SEC Championships this season, maintaining their position from last season. The Tigers were led by junior swimmer and NCAA qualifier Meghan Lee, who had a pair of top-8 finishes at SECs this year. Lee finished 8th in the 100 back (52.34), and picked up a silver medal in the 100 fly (51.28), scoring major points for Auburn. Colborn’s 200 fly personal best of 1:58.95 would have placed her 22nd at the 2023 SEC Championships. That was one of the Tigers’ weakest events last season, scoring just a single point at SECs.
Colborn joins a 2024 Auburn recruiting class consisting of Amie Perna, Audrey Olen, Carly Bixby, Izzy Iwasyk, Audrey Crawford, Ashlyn Morr, Kate Murray, Annika Finzen, and Bella Ekk. Bixby, Crawford, Finzen, and Murray will train alongside Colborn and the rest of the Tigers’ butterfly squad.
Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class is already loaded with state champions from multiple states. Crawford is the Indiana State Champion in the 400 IM, Perna is the TAPPS High School State Champion in the 100 back, Olen is a Wisconsin Senior State Champion in the 100 free, Bixby a Minnesota High School State Champion in the 100 fly and 100 back, Murray is the Connecticut Senior State Champion in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 500 free, Finzen is the reigning Kansas High School State Champion in the 100 fly and 100 back, and finally Colborn is the Delaware High School State Champion in the 100 fly and 100 back.
