Howard Gains Commit from Futures-Level Breaststroker Seth Green

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Futures qualifier Seth Green has announced his verbal commitment to swim and study at Howard University beginning in the fall of 2023.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Howard University! I want to thank my mom and dad, my entire family and friends, coaches, teammates, and the HU coaching staff for making this possible. I cannot wait to start my next chapter competing at the Division 1 Level. Go Bison!❤️💙”

Green is a current senior at Deer Park High School and he trains with Blue Tide Aquatics in Kingwood, Texas. He will be traveling about 1400 miles northeast to swim in Division I of the NCAA at Howard, a historically Black university located in Washington D.C.

He recently clocked three lifetime best times at the College Station Sectionals in March in the 50 free (21.36 on a relay leadoff), 100 free (47.52), and 100 breast (57.61). He placed highest in the 100 breast in 29th place in finals (57.65), right on his best time from prelims.

Green has had a very quick progression in breaststroke, dropping more than 4.5 seconds in the 100 yard breast in just over two years. His first USA Swimming verified 100 breast was a 1:02.23 from February 2021 and by the end of that year, he was already down to a 1:00.05. Green broke 59.00 in the 100 breast for the first time in December at the GU Southern Senior Champ Invite (58.54). Four months later, he’s taken nearly another second off his best time. He currently holds Futures times in the 100 breast and 50 free.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 21.36
  • 100 free – 47.52
  • 50 breast – 26.93
  • 100 breast – 57.61
  • 200 breast – 2:14.02

Green already has Northeast Conference (NEC) finalist potential in four events. His lifetime best times would have placed him in the ‘B’ finals of the 100 breast (in 12th place), 200 breast (12th), 50 free (15th), and 100 free (16th) at this season’s NEC Championships. He also blasted a 26.93 50 split during a 100 breast in December. If you factor in the relay start, this shows he could one day rival the 25.10 that graduate student Miguel Davis Jr. split on Howard’s second place 200 medley relay at this season’s championships.

Howard men are coming off a historic 2023 Northeast Conference Championships title win, their first in 34 years, under head coach Nic Askew. More than one-third of their 25-swimmer roster, and most of their top point scorers, were seniors or 5th years this season. This included Mark-Anthony Beckles who won the 100 free and placed 2nd in the 50 free. Green will help reinforce their sprint freestyle group and he will still be joining a deep breaststroke squad led by sophomore Darin Johnson, who won the 100 breast, and junior Mark-Anthony Thompson who placed third. Howard had four ‘A’ finalists in the 100 breast this season.

Green joins Zachary Randle of Jaimaca in Howard’s class of 2027.
