Joao de Lucca is making his rounds this weekend, and the Louisville Cardinals men’s swimming and diving program is making its mark on the Louisville sporting community as a whole.
After showing up at the women’s volleyball match on Friday night dressed in veritable winter clothing, the Louisville men ended the match like this:
That would be your defending NCAA 200 free champion, senior Joao de Lucca, in front of the railing screaming. The Louisville women beat Virginia Tech in the final of the Active Ankles challenge while spurred on by their athletic counterparts.
Then, on Saturday, de Lucca (see the video above) was honored as a national champion at Louisville’s home football game on Saturday. He received a rousing ovation from the crowd, and the Cardinals would go on to route Florida International by a score of 72-0.
Who knows, perhaps the men’s swimming team will become the whole university’s good luck charm. After all, between De Lucca and Carlos Almeida in 2012, the Cardinals men’s program has produced national champions for two straight seasons.
Louisville gets its swimming schedule underway on October 11th with a home meet against Xavier.
Thanks to Louisville assistant coach Chris Lindauer for sharing the video.
