The men of the Georgia Bulldogs will have at least two representation in Glasgow, Scotland. Tonight Chase Kalisz confirmed that himself and teammate Nic Fink both accepted spots on the American roster for the meet that pits an American all-star squad against a European all-star squad.
Chase Kalisz earned an invite by his 400IM swim this past summer. Kalisz is the rising star for the US in the 400IM after his silver medal performance at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona. Plus, in his freshman season at Georgia he walked away with the 400 scy IM title at NCAA’s.
Kalisz already looks like the favorite against the Europeans. Kalisz should also show up on the roster for the 200IM, finishing 3rd at Nationals behind Lochte and Dwyer.
Kalisz teammate, Nic Fink, will compete in the breaststroke events for the US following his breakout summer. He earned his way onto the Worlds roster finishing 2nd in the 100 breaststroke at US Nationals. He went on to finish 8th in the 100 in Barcelona.
Expect to see Fink fill in a roster spot in the 200 breaststroke as well. Like his teammate above, he finished 3rd at Nationals behind Cordes and Johnson.
For both these men, the Duel falling in December will be a good opportunity as a tune up for the NCAA Championships that fall in March.
Athletes are chosen on the basis of being the fastest American from the World Championships, World University Games, and U.S. Open (combined) in an Olympic event – top two in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Then, the roster is filled in around them at the coaches’ discretion.
Thus far, Conor Dwyer is the only other male commitment for the US. Three women confirmed their spots earlier today: Claire Donahue, Cammile Adams and Sarah Henry.
These aren’t the only commitments… just the only ones that have been announced via twitter/facebook…
This is good news for Europe, would be nice to have a strong team that can make a fight of it. Now we need my Danish girls 🙂
If USA doesn’t send most of the swimmers I have mentioned above, I don’t see the European team beaten.
I always find it weird to see a country against a continent.
At the beginning, it was USA vs Australia.
But at the same time, I understand USA would crush all nations in head-to-head.
So, it’s probably the best option to have suspense.
But imagine if there are in the same team Morozov, Agnel, Muffat, Stravius, Manaudou, Gilot, Bousquet, Gyurta, Pellegrini, Ottesen-Gray, Friis, RMP, Meilutyte, Sjöström, Efimova, Hosszu, Cseh, both Deibler, Miley, Jamieson, Kromowidjojo, Nielsen, Baurmtova, Belmonte, Paltrinieri, Verschuren, Govorov, Scozzoli!
Interesting news Bobo, thanks. Seems all the European swimmers are keeping quiet for now, I want to know who’s on the Euro team 🙂
You can now add Mr Stravius to the European roster. 🙂
And it’s very likely to see Manaudou, Gilot and Bousquet in Glasgow as well.

Off topic but French news with Camille Muffat who will finally swim the short course season.
She will go to Dubai and Doha.
It’s surprising because I thought Nice swimmers would skip the short course season this year.
So, perhaps there’s a chance now she swims at the European championships and at the Duel in the Pool.
There will be a big French team in Doha for the world cup and, in the following time, a stage there.

Any news about the 5 best American swimmers of the moment?
Will they swim in Glasgow?
Ryan Lochte?
Nathan Adrian?
Matt Grevers?
Missy Franklin?
Katie Ledecky?
USA also needs great breaststrokers like Jessica Hardy and Kevin Cordes.
The veterans Natalie Coughlin and Anthony Ervin would be very useful too.
And as it’s in short course, it would be fun to see Tom Shields and Rachel Bootsma.
I had forgotten Miss Smoliga! 😳
She’s still the reigning SCM 100 back world champion!
Oh Bobo… She’ll be crushed, you have no chance with her now 🙁
For SCM, I would so like to see what Cindy Tran could do if she’s eligible for selection.
Franklin might not swim due to college commitments. After all, finals are around that time.
