The Chinese swimming roster for the 2022 (2023) Asian Games has been announced, with a 40-strong lineup set to represent the nation on their home soil this fall.

Originally scheduled to take place in September 2022, the Asian Games were postponed to this year due to COVID-19 concerns within China.

As with the postponed 2020 Olympic Games, the 2022 Asian Games has retained the year 2022 within its official competition title.

The Chinese swimming roster is comprised of 21 females and 19 males set to improve upon its runner-up finish in the overall swimming medal table from the last edition of the quadrennial event in 2018. There in Jakarta, Indonesia, China’s medal haul of 50 fell 2 shy of leaders Japan, who topped the medal table with 52.

Both nations reaped 19 gold medals apiece, while Singapore rounded out the top 3 nations far behind with 6 overall medals including 2 gold.

Olympic multi-medalist Zhang Yufei leads the women’s roster, with Ye Shiwen and Yang Junxuan also in the lineup. Freestyle ace Li Bingjie will also represent the nation, as well as backstroker Wang Xueer.

Rio Olympic medalist in the 100m backstroke, Xu Jiayu, is also ready to continue his career resurgence momentum, having put up some of his fastest times in several years this season.

Qin Haiyang will also look to make his mark in Hangzhou, coming off an impressive 100m breaststroke performance where the 24-year-old became just the 3rd man in history to post a time under the 58-second barrier (57.93).
