Jack Alexy had a standout sophomore season for Cal, culminating in a 2nd place finish in the 100 free at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Alexy carried his success over to long course, where he surprised many by winning a national title in the 100 free at US Trials. Alexy credits his success this year to a lot of learning done the year prior, where he was getting accustomed to athletics, academics, and extracurriculars as a freshman in Berkeley.
How many NCAA championship teams has Durden been a part of, including as an assistant?
David Durden knows how to develop swimmers.
LMFAO
Get under the bridge troll.
hi
Glad he got over the trademarked Cal freshman slump that Durden has patented in his decade long run of terror in Berkeley
Given that his “decade long run of terror” has produced 6 NCAA titles, a whole pile of Olympic medals, and really only 1 consistent complaint (from a friend of (redacted program)), I have to assume that when you say “run of terror” you mean like in the way when Michael Jackson said “I’m bad” he meant “I’m really really good.”
This is a gem 😁
Easy to win 6 NCAA titles when you recruit the fastest in the country. Not because of his coaching, but because of the notoriety of the university. Tell your friend Dave to coach for example Georgia Tech and let’s see if he can take them to the top.
Swimming is a talent sport. If you have a group of fast people, other “slower less talented swimmers” will never beat the more gifted swimmers.
All people who achieved olympic success were great LCM before they came to train with Durden. The rest are bathtub specialists.
Alexy was 48 high pre CAL. He was going to improve with or without Durden.
Abbey, Dare and Alexy improved this last year due… Read more »
Please stop with the sour grapes, and do not fault someone for having great talent. Recruitment is the most important of a college coach’s job – any sport, any level. Anyway, who are you and what makes you such an expert?
There’s another program across the bay that has managed to recruit great HS swimmers during the past 5 yrs but who have stagnated there. So maybe Durden knows something that others don’t?
I would venture to say that If someone chooses to attend Stanford University, it is a conscious decision, based upon a number of factors. Of course swimming is one of them, but it is not primary. Please stop the bad sounds. You don’t know what you are talking about. P.S, D.D. knows a heck of a lot more than Aot thinks. College coaches wear many hats, and DD’s hats seem to fit quite well.
Tom Shields wasn’t a great LCM swimmer before going to CAL.
If the notoriety of CAL is why the program has been #1 or #2 for the last 10 years or so, why weren’t they that good prior to Durden? Maybe the university was as notorious back then.
Fact: Since 2010, Cal (Durden) has finished #1 or #2. 13 straight years (2020 canceled due to covid). No other school or coach can make that claim.
CAL’s run is most impressive. Texas gets close with 13 of 14 first or second place finishes falling short in 2013 when it was Michigan and CAL. Neither school needs to apologize for their impressive performance.
Horrible awful take from someone who clearly thinks he’s an expert
This argument has been brought up before, and it’s not really true at all- Cal certainly recruits with the best, but it’s no better than other top schools. By SwimSwam’s rankings, they haven’t had a number one class since the class of 2017 (which, to be fair, was really good!), and they’ve won 3 titles in that time period.I think there are a lot of schools that are getting away with doing less with classes just as good, if not better than what Cal brings in.
It is easy to win 6 NCAA titles lolol
You have no clue AOT. Maybe you should limit your comments to soccer.
