In the final of the men’s 50 fly at the 2023 World Championships, Thomas Ceccon clocked a 22.68 to take gold and break the Italian record. The former Italian record, a 22.79 from the 2022 World Championships semi-final, was also held by Ceccon.
Ceccon now is the seventh-fastest performer of all-time in this event, as well as the fifth-fastest European of all-time.

Although Ceccon is the world record holder and defending World Champion in the 100 back, he had never won a Worlds medal in the event prior to Monday. At the 2022 World Championships, he swam a time in the semi-finals that would have medalled, but then added time in the final and finished fifth.
Ceccon took his 50 fly gold around 30 minutes after his 100 back semi-final, where he clocked a time of 52.16 to head into finals as the top overall seed. On Sunday, he anchored Italy’s 4×100 free relay in a time of 47.03 to help them win silver.
Diogo didn’t break is own WJR because he is going to be 19 in October
The medal is cool ig, the stache is really the star of the show tho. LOL
Congrats Ceccon
and I do love the stache
He can do this while being a 51.6 backstroker and a reliable 47.0 anchor on relays is what’s crazy
And he can swim a decent 200 free as well. I imagine what he could do in the 200 medley…
Ceccon is also pretty good in breaststroke. He set some italian age group record in both 200 and 400 medley.
He doesn’t try the medley because he knows he would not be within medal conversation at thevbig meets. He does not have the endurance required to be up there with the best of them.
He said to Italian tv that now, that he won this medal, which was his goal, he is done with the 50s of stroke. I suspect he wants to give a shot at the 100 fly.
Michael Andrew in shambles
I had the feeling that’s what he would do. Wonder if he’ll give the 200 IM a go? He has a 1:59.89 PB from 2019.
He won the 100 IM at SC Worlds last year.
Unfortunately he clearly said he doesn’t want to, same goes for 2back, the most likely events he’ll try to push to the limit are the 100 free and 100 fly, with a small chance of him picking up the 200 free seriously (I’d say mainly for relay purposes, especially if Ragaini and Galossi achieve their full potential, a 4×200 with them, Ceccon and an inform De Tullio could easily go for a medal)
In the water, Ceccon’s renowned,
His fly swift, breaking the Italian ground.
Seventh all-time, a champ’s feat,
His record, none can beat,
In history’s waves, his name is crowned.
Nice! Those bars going crazyyy
Good for him !!
Michael Andrew beat Ceccon at Marie Nostrum Monaco in the 50 fly skins final.
Ceccon was so good the finals page had to be deleted.
