World Junior Champion Diletta Carli Receives Academic Award

Italian Diletta Carli achieved excellence in the pool this summer and she has now been rewarded for her excellence in the classroom.

This summer Carli, a 17 year old from Pietrasanta, won the 200 freestyle at the World Junior Championships in Dubai in a time of 1:58.94. She also competed in Barcelona as part of the Italian 4 x 200 freestyle relay team.

Carli along with four other athletes from biathlon and athletics received the award. The award is a celebration of women in sport and the ceremony for the award was held during a week dedicated to erasing gender-based violence sponsored by CONI Lombary in the memory of Yara Gambirasio, a 13 year old athlete who was killed upon leaving the Brembate di Sopra Sports Centre in 2010.

Carli is currently coached by Adolfo Buonaccorsi and in her fourth year of high school.
