Irish breaststroker Fiona Doyle has told SwimSwam today that she will be a part of the European team that races at the 2013 Duel in the Pool team in a meet pitting the best in Europe against the best in the United States on December 20th and 21st.
For most Irish swimmers who would be involved in this meet, the trip to Glasgow for the meet would be a short one. Doyle, however, is living and training in Canada on a student visa at the Calgary Swim Club and the University of Calgary.
This summer, even with the flaming star of Sycerika McMahon looming, Doyle broke the Irish long course records in the 50 (30.93), 100 (1:07.66), and 200 (2:30.21) meter breaststrokes. She’s about that good in short course meters, which the Duel in the Pool is held in, as well.
This is a big addition for the Europeans after Rikke Moeller-Pedersen declined an invite. There’s a lot of very, very good breaststrokers in Europe right now, and that’s a pair of events that they could rightfully win the scoring count in against the Americans, especially if they were to pick up Yulia Efimova or Ruta Meilutyte for the roster.
Fair play fiona! Best of luck
Awesome stuff, well done Fiona
