Catie Miller out of Nevada has verbally committed to the Duke, continuing a very good fall for the Blue Devils’ recruiting.
Miller swims for the powerhouse Sandpipers of Nevada, and like her older brother Cody Miller, a Big Ten Champion and National-Team-level swimmer at Indiana, is primarily a breaststroker and IM’er.
Catie Miller has been 1:05.1 and 2:15.6 in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in yards, and has been 2:03.0 and 4:18.5 in the 200 and 400 yard IM.
In a conference light on women’s breaststrokers, Duke has the conference’s second-best in senior Christine Wixted. Last year, she was the conference’s only swimmer to break a minute in the 100 yard race. Remember now, though, with Notre Dame now joining the conference, the Irish Bring All-American Emma Reaney into that mix.
Miller swims scholastically for Bishop Gorman High School, currently the state’s dominant program. She was 4th at last year’s Nevada High School State Championship meet in the 100 breast, and the runner-up in the 200 IM (behind only teammate Olivia Barker, who now swims with her brother at Indiana).
The women’s team has also picked up distance swimmer Verity Abel and another very good IM’er Elizabeth Devitt in this class of 2014.
As for Miller, she should be able to score at the ACC Championships as a freshman in both the 200 breaststroke and the 400 IM, at least.
