This October 7-8 in Irvine, CA marks the 15th anniversary of the Cousineau Cup water polo tournament. The Cousineau Cup is a USA Water Polo-sanctioned age group event played in honor of the late Evan Cousineau who died at age 9 from a rare disease known as ALD (adrenoleukodystrophy). Part of Evan’s treatment required bone marrow donors, it became a cause that Evan’s mom Gina and the entire Cousineau family rallied around.

Since Evan’s passing, the Cousineau family and their foundation BAHBAD (Be A Here, Become A Donor) has collaborated with DKMS to register 14,180 new potential donors to the national bone marrow registry. Thanks to this work, there have been a total of 68 second chances provided to patients worldwide. That includes the donation of Olympian and tourney sponsor Brad Schumacher (Kap7, Inc.).

This October 7-8, the two groups will again join forces to hold a bone marrow registry event during the tournament at the William Woollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, CA.

We hope you can join us to help remember Evan and spread the word on a truly worthwhile cause that could change someone’s life!

Attached is a media kid from the DKMS, a non-profit dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders by creating awareness, recruiting bone marrow donors to provide a second chance at life, raising funds to match donor registrations costs, and supporting the improvement of blood cancer therapies by our own research.
