NorCal Breaststroker Brittany Oxley Commits to South Carolina

Brittany Oxley from the Arden Hills Swim Club and Vista Del Lago High School in Northern California has verbally committed to South Carolina.

Oxley is primarily a breaststroker, and had a great junior year:

  • 100 yard breast (1:05.2 as a sophomore, 1:03.6 as a junior)
  • 200 yard breast (2:21.3 as a sophomore, 2:18.0 as a junior)
  • 100 meter breast (1:16.3 in 2011, 1:20.3 in 2012, 1:14.8 in 2013)
  • 200 meter breast (2:43.0 in 2012, 2:39.0 in 2013)

Oxley was the runner-up in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship meet in the 100 breast, just three tenths behind fellow (then) junior Kathleen Benjamin of Davis High School.

She is also a plus-sprinter, with bests of 24.3/53.9, that could develop with some work at South Carolina.

The Gamecocks in the spring will run out of eligibility for their top breaststroker and former SEC Champion Amanda Rutqvist, meaning that 2013-2014 sophomore Ellen Johnson will take over as the team’s number one, depending on how much of a challenge Oxley gives her. Johnson was a 1:02.7/2:18.9 as a freshman last year.
