South Dakota State won all 11 events to breeze past Iowa Central Community College, 147-24, in a women’s swimming and diving dual Saturday afternoon at the Marshall Center Pool.
The Jackrabbits improved to 2-0 in dual action this season and were paced by two-time winner Gabriella Gnewuch. A senior from Verona, Wisconsin, Gnewuch won the 100-yard freestyle in 55.41 seconds and added a victory in the 1,000 freestyle in a time of 11 minutes, 22.17 seconds.
Seven other SDSU swimmers won individual titles, closing out a sweep of the freestyle events with victories by Katie Pattee (50 freestyle, 25.88 seconds), Emma Bachelder (200 freestyle, 2:00.20) and Gigi Hioki (500 freestyle, 5:16.77).
Freshman Izzy Cox claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:17.91, with Marissa Branham (100 breaststroke, 1:08.98), Sara Juez (100 butterfly, 1:00.50) and Sianne Downes (100 backstroke, :57.76) also notching wins.
Jenna Currier was a member of both Jackrabbit relay victories, first teaming with Downes, Branham and Hioki for a winning time of 3:59.65 in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Currier, Kelsey Kocon, Pattee and Juez closed the meet with a top time of 1:39.51 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Rafael Negri recorded a pair of victories in the sprint freestyle events to lead the South Dakota State men’s swimming and diving team to a 139-62 victory over visiting Iowa Central Community College in dual action Saturday afternoon at the Marshall Center Pool.
The Jackrabbits completed a perfect opening weekend, improving to 2-0 in head-to-head competitions.
SDSU claimed victories in 10 of 11 swimming events, with Negri, a junior from Sao Paolo, Brazil, clocking a winning time of 21.85 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and coming back later in the meet to post a top time of 48.40 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
Six other Jackrabbits notched individual victories, including Denilson Cyprianos in the 500 freestyle (4:48.67) and Jack Ellison in the 1,000 freestyle (9:54.76).
SDSU also claimed titles in three other 100-yard-stroke events with Braxton McGrath winning the 100 butterfly (52.76 seconds), Aiden Carstensen touching the wall first in the 100 backstroke (51.85 seconds) and freshman Cody Vertin taking first in the 100 breaststroke (58.27 seconds).
Austin Smith added a victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:57.76. Smith and Vertin also teamed with Cyprianos and Eric Anderson for a victory in the meet-opening 400 medley relay in 3:28.59.
Anderson, Liam Murray, Luke Nichols and Sam Johnson closed the meet by winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:25.21.
Luis Oliveira notched the win for Iowa Central in the 200 freestyle, 1:43.17.
