AKRON, Ohio – After a strong first day of competition, the Akron Swimming and Diving team closed out the Akron Zips Classic in first place with a second day full of strong finishes.

The morning session opened with the women’s 200 yard freestyle relay, in which the Zips swept the podium. Relay Z finished at the 1:31.42 mark and Relay I came in at 1:33.73 and Relay P touched the wall at 1:34.25.

The following event saw Akron again take the top three spots. Weronika Gorecka won the women’s 400 yard IM with Astrid Halvorsen taking second and Giovanna Cappabianca finished third. The five Akron swimmers in the event all finished in the top seven.

The 100 yard butterfly had four Zips in the top five with Abigail Daniel and Rachel Sabotin going 1-2.

Kaja Reinhardt was the only Akron swimmer to compete in the 200 yard freestyle and with her time of 1:51.57 took home the title. The only swim event in the morning session that did not feature a Zip in the top spot was the 100 yard breaststroke, but Akron still had four of the six fastest times.

After both Madelyn Gatrall and Rebecca Reid both set new Akron Zips Classic records yesterday, the two swimmers went first and second in the 100 yard backstroke today.
