COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Denver’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs swept Air Force on Friday night at the Cadet Natatorium.

The DU women’s 200 medley kicked things off for the swimmers with a victory. Ali Beay, Jessica Maeda, Mary O’Neil and Eri Remington swam the event in 1:43.90.
The DU men’s 200 medley repeated the women’s sucess. Liam Simmons, Alex Lynch, Nikola Tadic and Frank Tirone swam the event in 1:32.15.
The Denver women finished first and second in the 1000 free, Nika Spehar finished first in 10:33.07 and Daniela Alfaro Saldana finished behind her in 10:39.48.
The Pio men went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free with Joe Hancock (9:52.27), Joseph Purdy (9:55.82), and Connor Hughes (10:03.40).
In the 200 free, Dylan Wright sprinted to a 1:42.09 and Tommy Hancock claimed third and swam the event in 1:42.54.
Emi Remington wom the 50 yard free in 23.73 for the Pios. On the men’s side, Denver went 1-2-3 in the 50 free with Donat Fabian (21.11), Luke Milburn (21.41), and Matija Pantic (21.51).
The IM swimmers took the water next. Sabrina Rachjaibun won the women’s 400 IM in 4:31.26, followed by Mina Solaker in 4:34.66 and Lilly Zippel in 4:38.45. The Denver men repeated the women’s success and went 1-2 with Noah Laird (4:07.82) and Nico Morton (4:08).
The one meter divers took center stage for the Pioneers. The women swept the podium with Olivia Gordon (262.80), Kaelyn Hinesley (259.28) and Kaitlin Calvery (258.60). Zyad Morsy (358.65) and Nathan Cox (307.05) finished in first and third for the men’s three meter.
Mia Moulden took the top of the podium in the 200 butterfly after swimming it in 2:06.39. Brandon Chapman mirrored her success and earned a first place finish and swam a 1:53.44 on the men’s side.
The Pios continued their success and claimed first and second in the 100 free. Frank Tirone earned his second win of the night with 46.09 followed by Matija Pantic in 46.70.
Lilly Zippel and Darlan Koler kept the momentum rolling for the Pios and finished in first and second in the 200 back. Dylan Wright earned a place on the top of the podium with a 1:49.50 in the 200 back.
The distance swimmers took the water next. Nika Spehar earned her second first place finish in as many races in the 500 free in 5:08.07 followed by Sabrina Rachjaibun in 5:12.21.
Denver women’s divers swept the 3-meter podium with Olivia Gordon (284.18), Kaitlin Calvery (252.45), and Kaelyn Hinesley (252.08). The men took first and third in the 1-meter with Zyad Morsy (368.33) claiming first and Nathan Cox (283.05) in third.
The women’s 200 breast title went to Jessica Maeda who swam a 2:18.42. Alex Lynch clinched the men’s 200 breast victory in 2:05.53.
Denver closed out the meet with first-place finishes in the men’s and women’s 200 free relay. Eri Remington, Ali Beay, Megan Lucyshyn and Kali Metuzals combined for a 1:37.97 on the women’s side. While on the men’s side Frank Tirone, Donat Fabian, Luke Milburn and Nikola Tadic combined for 1:22.33.

COLORADO SPRINGS- Air Force opened its home schedule against Denver on Friday, as the Falcons were bested 168.00-75.00 at Cadet Natatorium.
Ryan Mills notched yet another win in the 100 Freestyle, besting the field with a time of 52.61. Lily Bachl finished third in the same event, timing out at 52.92. Mills also placed third in the 50 Freestyle (24.08), and was the lead for the Falcons 200 Freestyle Relay Team that placed second following a time of 1:35.02.
“Ryan Mills had another great night for a freshman, winning the 100 Free,” said head swimming coach Colleen Murphy. “We got out-touched in a lot of close races tonight.”
The Falcons performance in the 200 Freestyle Relay stands as the top-time of the season for Air Force.
As well in the 50 Freestyle, Abby Turner managed a tight second-place finish, clocking in at 23.96. Another second-place swimmer, Mandy Fleetwood touched out in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.27. Naomi Furman was just behind her, placing third following a time of 2:24.81.
Abigail Hardy (2:06.97) and Lauren Arnold (2:09.92) took second and third in the 200 Butterfly.
Kai-Min Tsuei paced Air Force in the 200 Backstroke as the result of her 2:08.40 in the race. In the 500 Freestyle, Natalie Gembicki earned a third-place standing, clocking in at 5:17.34. Always reliable in the distance races, Katelyn Andrist notched a third-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, ending the race to the tune of 10:41.66.
“Tomorrow, our team needs to step up another level against a very good Wyoming team,” said Murphy.
Next, the Falcons will indeed battle the Cowgirls on Saturday, October 21. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm MT at Cadet Natatorium.
COLORADO SPRINGS- The Falcons opened their home schedule against the Pioneers on Friday, though Air Force was defeated 175.00-68.00 at Cadet Natatorium.
“I was really pleased with the progress we’ve made in the last three weeks,” said head swimming coach Rob Clayton. “We saw a lot of things we’ve been working on since Grand Junction that we’ve been focused on showed up in races. The guys swam significantly better.”
Freshman Tyler Surratt was the lone Falcon to notch a winning time, placing first in the 500 Freestyle after touching out at 4:46.34.
“(Tyler) was the highlight of the meet,” said Clayton. “He just went out smooth and strong from start to finish.”
James Winterfield came up just short in the 200 Freestyle, though his time of 1:42.49 in the 200 Freestyle was good for second place. Kellen Russell (1:56.55) and Daniel Detjen (1:58.04) earned second and third place standing in the 200 Butterfly.
Louis Body swam to a strong finish in the 200 Backstroke, touching out second as the result of a 1:53.31 finish. Oh so close, Anthony Sebastian finished .21 seconds behind the winning swimmer in the 200 Breaststroke.
On the boards, Alex Kenyon offered a strong showing in the 3-Meter Dive, having been judged for 314.55 points. He also finished second in the 1-Meter Dive (322.05).
Camden Swigart finished third in the 400 IM, notching a time of 4:09.27. Gavin Peterman also placed third, racing to a time of 46.91 in the 100 Freestyle.
“We had a lot of guys that had a lot of good swims,” said Clayton. “I’m really proud of the hard work the guys put in day in and day out.
“We’re excited for Wyoming tomorrow, should be a great meet.”
Air Force will battle Wyoming tomorrow at Cadet Natatorium, with the meet scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm MT.
