LARAMIE, Wyo. (10/28/23) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team honored its seniors Saturday at Laramie High School. And it did so with a couple of victories.

The Cowgirls defeated Colorado School of Mines, 137-81. That improves the women’s team to 3-0 on the season.

The Cowboys also remained unbeaten on the year. They downed the Orediggers, 138-82, to push their record to 2-0.

“This meet was a great way to celebrate our seniors and all of the fun they have brought to our program,” head coach Dave Denniston said. “We had multiple races ending in smiles for our team, and it was nice to enjoy racing.”

Wyoming won all but four races Saturday. Eight of those events featured the home team going 1-2, four of them saw Wyoming going 1-2-3 and a pair of races had UW place a swimmer in each of the top-four spots.

Carly Palmer won a pair of individual races in the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard breaststroke. Heidi Billings took first a couple of times, as well, as a member of the 400-yard medley relay and in the 200-yard backstroke. Samantha Diaz and Rachael Horne were also on that medley relay, and both swam a leg of the victorious 200-yard free relay.

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Oredigger backstroker Luca Burns had a big day Saturday against NCAA Division I Wyoming despite a pair of dual losses for the #22-ranked Colorado School of Mines Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams.

While the women fell by a score of 137-81, and the men dropped a 138-82 margin, the Orediggers still found highlights in four event wins. Luca Burns accounted for two of those wins. Burns won the 50-back straight up with time of 23.63. He also won the 200-back in 1:56.14. Tierney made it back-to-back gold for Mines as she won the 200-breast in 2:28.34. Jorie Selig rounded out first-place finishes for the Orediggers by winning the 50-fly in a time of 26.57. That finish did not include exhibition performances.

Mines also had a slew of second-place finishes. All four relays including the 400-medley and 200-freestyle grabbed silver. Julie Gill touched second in the 1650-free. Tierney added silver in the 50-breast as well. Ronan Lauinger was runner-up in the 200-breast. The 50-fly, 200-free, and 100-IM all featured Orediggers scoring second-place points as Wyoming exhibitioned its swimmers for the final portion of the meet.
