WASHINGTON (November 10, 2023) – Howard University women’s swimming & diving team topped conference rival Saint Francis, 158-104, Friday afternoon inside Burr Gym Pool.

With the duel win, HU moves to .500 (2-2) on the season.

Sophomore Zuilda Nwaeze (Columbia, Md.) and newcomer Chanice Posada (Houston) led the way with seven total combined victories.

Individually, Nwaeze picked up wins in the 200 Free (1:53.83) and 500 Free (5:17.11), respectively, the Houston product also grabbed individual victories in the 100 Fly (59.23) and 100 Back (58.81)

Posada joined senior Isabella Fountain (White Plains, N.Y.), junior Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) in the 200 Medley Relay where they placed first overall with a 1:46.70 mark.

Benoit, Fountain and Thompson took gold in individual races, winning the 50 Fly (26.95), 50 Free (24.19) and 100 Breast (1:07.05), respectively.

Nwaeze, Posada, Thompson and rookie Summer McKoy (Pikesville, Md.) closed the event, taking first place in the 200 Free Relay with a 1:37.04 time.

Other noteworthy performances included senior Michaela Spears (Chicago) winning the 50 Breast (30.18) and freshman Myeisha Sharrieff (Bermuda) claiming first in the 50 Back (26.86).

Saturday (Nov. 11), HU goes to Lexington, Va., for a quad-meet. Meet time is slated for 1 p.m., hosted by VMI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Natalie Glessner (Elizabeth, Pa.) earned the first win for Saint Francis in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:45.83. Glessner also won the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 54.04.

Nicole López Kohlmann (Mexico City, Mexico) picked up the Red Flash’s final win of the meet with a time of 2:10.94 in the 200-yard individual medley.

Bridget Kurtzweil (Avon, Ohio), Oksana Horova (Kraków, Poland), Laryssa Webster (Bradford, Pa.) and Anna Bernasconi (Albany, N.Y.) placed second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.13.

In the 50-yard backstroke and butterfly, Inde Patterson (Moon Township, Pa.) was awarded second with a time of 27.50 in both events.

Bernasconi picked up second place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.71.

An NEC Prime Performer this week, Sara Turner (Enola, Pa.) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:09.68.

Morgan Moniz (Mashpee, Mass.) took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:26.69.

Individually, Kurtzweil placed second behind López Kohlmann in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.71.

Saint Francis’s final top finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Horova, Amalia Bradburn (Reading, Pa.), Aurem Pifarre (Balaguer, Spain) and Reegan Brown (Acme, Pa.) finishing with a time of 1:41.10.

The Red Flash will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Liberty Invite next weekend.
