Arena Signs NCAA Champ & American Record Holder Tom Shields and 2012 Gold Medalist Matt McLean

Arena, the exclusive outfitter of the U.S. National Swim Team, is proud to announce its sponsorship of 2012 gold medalist Matt McLean and NCAA Champion Tom Shields. The two National Team members add to Arena’s growing roster of top American athletes.

20120817-Arena_main_logo_black“We are so pleased with the incredible team of talented athletes who have joined Arena’s U.S. Team,” said Tim McCool. “When athletes of this caliber choose to align with our brand, that tells us that our company and our technology is exactly where it needs to be. While we will continue to expand our U.S. presence and create the world’s most advanced suit technology, we are also committed to our support of the U.S. National Team and many of the world’s best swimmers.”

Shields broke three American records this season, most recently taking down his own mark in the 100m fly at the FINA World Cup event in Doha. Shields is the reigning NCAA champion, after sweeping the butterfly events at the 2013 NCAA Championships. The UC-Berkeley swimmer also recently set a meet record at the U.S. Open in Irvine, Calif., and notched two American records competing at the FINA World Cup event in Eindhoven.

“I’ve been wearing Arena suits all summer and have found great success in the pool,” said Shields. “I’m so happy to officially be aligned with Arena. The technology is the best in the industry, and I am proud to represent a company that is true leader in the swimming community.”

McLean was a member of the 2012 Olympic Team where he claimed a gold medal as a member of the 4x200m freestyle relay. The University of Virginia product most recently represented Team USA at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona.

“I’ve been swimming in Arena for a very long time, and truly believe that Arena makes the best racing and training suits in the market. The company stands for excellence, commitment to its athletes and growing the sport of swimming, and those are all things I can get behind. I’m proud to represent Arena and hope to be an Arena athlete for a long time.”
