COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV sophomore Erika Carlson has been tabbed the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week. San Diego State junior Valentina Lopez Arevalo garnered MW Diver of the Week honors, while rookie teammate Reka Nyiradi earned the MW Freshman of the Week nod.
These weekly honors encompass all eligible swimming and diving meets from Nov. 22 through Dec. 20.
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
ERIKA CARLSON, UNLV
Sophomore, Seattle, Washington/Ingraham HS
- Helped the Rebels to a victory at their home invitational against eight opponents.
- Captured or tied first place in three events, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, while registering Conference leading times in the 500 and 200 free and the second-best time of the season in the 100 free.
- In the 500 free, logged a program-record time of 4:46.53, a NCAA B Standard time.
- Swam a 1:48.11 in the 200 free.
- Finished the 100 free tied for first with a time of 49.68.
DIVER OF THE WEEK
VALENTINA LOPEZ AREVALO, SAN DIEGO STATE
Junior, Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres del Estado de Jalisco
- Logged three first-place finishes at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational, surpassing NCAA diving zones in all three events.
- In the 1-meter springboard, logged a mark of 297.90.
- In the 3-meter springboard, registered a score of 294.80.
- On the Platform, posted a score of 299.95.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
REKA NYIRADI, SAN DIEGO STATE
Budapest, Hungary/Kolcsey Ferenc Gimnazium
- Pushed the Aztecs to a 128-120 win over Air Force with a pair of first-place finishes and a second-place time in individual events and swam a leg of the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay.
- Finished the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 1:49.66, a season-best time.
- Clinched the first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-fast time of 55.81.
- Logged a second-place finish in the 100 free with a season-best time of 51.47. The event was scored as an exhibition due to the Aztecs large lead on the scoreboard.
- Swam the third leg of the 400 free relay that captured the event title with a time of 3:29.81.
