FORT MYERS, Fla. – Zach Anderson from men’s basketball and Mia Burke from swimming & diving have been named the Florida Gulf Coast University Suncoast Credit Union Scholar-Athletes of the Month for the month of December.

Anderson has a 3.74 GPA as he pursues a degree in Integrated Studies. On the basketball court, the Apopka native was named Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week following FGCU’s 72-68 upset of then-No. 7 Florida Atlantic University. The junior has scored in double-figures in all but four games this season for the Eagles.

“Incredibly proud of Zach’s accomplishments both on and off the court,” said men’s basketball head coach Pat Chambers. “He is transforming into an amazing leader and young man.”

Burke currently carries a 4.0 GPA as she works towards her degree in Health Science. In the pool, Burke individually recorded three Top 10 finishes at the Magnus Cup in Cleveland, Ohio (50-yard free, 100-yard free, and 100-yard IM). She also was part of a trio of relay teams that earned medals at the event (2nd – 200-yard free relay; 3rd – 800-yard free relay; 3rd – 400-yard free relay).

“Congratulations to Mia on being named the Scholar-Athlete of the Month,” said FGCU Head Swim & Dive Coach Dave Rollins. “We are proud of her commitment in the pool, weight room and the classroom and excited for her to earn this incredible honor.”

This is the third year that Suncoast Credit Union has been the title sponsor of the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athletes of the Month. The award itself dates back to the 2011-12 season.
