Maine Women, Bowdoin Men Victorious In Split Dual

Brunswick, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team defeated Bowdoin, 166.5-133.5, on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Bears scored five individual wins and swept the relay events in the victory.

Kayla Loughman led the Black Bears, sweeping both breaststroke events while serving on each of Maine’s winning relay teams. Loughman took gold in the 50-yard breaststroke at 30.48 and touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:24.87.

Rebecca Thompson won the 200 freestyle at 1:59.75. Isabelle Irani took top honors in the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.85 and was the runner-up in the 50 butterfly at 26.87.

Mia Poirier scored a victory in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall at 23.31, and placed second in the 100 free at 54.11.

On the board, Ashley LeClaire took silver in both the 1m (265.05) and the 3m (254.40) while Haylie Calver placed third in each the 1m (237.00) and the 3m (237.90).

Maine’s 400 medley relay team of Marlee Canale, Loughman, Poirier, and Hannah Deighan took gold in the event with a time of 3:59.70.

Loughman, Deighan, Alicia Littler, and Carmen Braden teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay at 1:40.51.

Maine returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 when it hosts New Hampshire at 5 p.m.

Brunswick, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team fell at Bowdoin by a final score of 157-131 on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Bears registered five individual victories and a relay win at the event.

Julian LaPietra scored gold in the 100-yard freestyle with a final time of 48.07 while Matthew Bendoraitis took first in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall at 1:58.01.

Nate Teerlinck took first place honors in the 200 breaststroke at 2:15.41 while Calvin Comeau added a second place showing in the 500 freestyle (4:52.39) and a bronze medal performance in the 200 butterfly event (1:59.85).

Riley Clark swept the diving events for the Black Bears, winning the 1m with a score of 278.03 and the 3m at 249.60.

Maine’s 200 freestyle relay team of Finn Devers, Cameron Watelet, Max Ginsburg, and Kaden Kilger took first with a time of 1:26.49.

Watelet, Nick Partridge, Comeau, and Devers teamed up in the 400 medley relay event to place second at 3:31.15.

Maine returns to action for its final regular meet of the season when it hosts Providence on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men’s swimming & diving team defeated visiting UMaine by a 157-131 margin. The women fell to the Bears by a 166.5-133.5 margin.

Women’s Meet Highlights

  • Elizabeth Walsh and Sydney Lillis went one-two in the 400 IM with times of 4:31.23 and 4:40.78, respectively. Walsh won the 200 backstroke (2:09.39), followed by Carolyn Casey (2:11.61) and Anika Rubocki (2:11.61).
  • Casey earned a top finish in the 500 free (5:10.49) with Harper Stevenson (5:17.13) coming in seconds.
  • Liv Smith earned a top finish in the 200 butterfly, winning with a time of 2:15.04.
  • Tatum Zupnik had an individual victory in the 100 free, clocking a 53.11. Zupnik repeated as the winner of the 50 fly (26.34).
  • Sadie Smith narrowly earned the top spot in the 1meter diving even with a score of 265.57. Smith added a victory in the 3meter with a score of 278.10.
  • Liv Smith, Stevenson, and Lillis swept the podium in the 100 IM, all finishing with times in the 1:03’s.

Men’s Meet Highlights

  • Bowdoin’s 400 medley relay started the meet with a commanding win with a time of 3:27.87. Owen Weller, Alexander Grand’Pierre, Raphael Grand’Pierre, and Micah Sher combined for the win.
  • Alex Grand’Pierre had an individual victory in the 50 breaststroke (25.52). Grand’Pierre (21.77) finished as runner-up to Jack Tran (21.33) in the 50 free.
  • Tran, Grand’Pierre, and Dylan Zhang finished with times of 52.44, 52.49, and 52.79 to go one-two-three in the 100 IM.
  • Tran also won the 50 fly with a time of 22.33.
  • Brim Peabody (4:10.62) and Joram Kim (4:16.31) finished first and second in the 400 IM.
  • Zhang continued a strong season in the 200 free with a win and time of 1:44.73.
  • Liam Roehr added a competitive victory in the 50 backstroke (25.23).
  • Rhys Edwards and Brad Schoenthaler finished in the top two spots in the 200 fly with times of 1:53.35 and 1:58.37.
  • In the 500 free, Phil Bianco turned in a first place time of 4:49.80.

  • The women have the CBB Meet at Colby on February 3 at noon.
  • The men are off until their CBB Meet at Bates the following weekend.
