LIU Dominates Le Moyne in Dual Meet, Women Win Every Event

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—  The men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Le Moyne in a dual meet on Saturday in the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Sharks dominated the Dolphins as the women’s team swept every event and the men had a sizable victory.

Mariajose Lopez Lizarraga was victorious in the 1000-yard (10:40.72), 500-yard (5:18.22), 200-yard (1:59.18) freestyles. She crushed the field in the 500, winning by over 14 seconds.

Allie Bashor had a really nice afternoon, winning both the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.03) and 100-yard freestyle (55.56). Summer Wenger was right behind her in the 100-yard free, finishing in 55.65.

Bashor was also a part of two winning relay teams. LIU won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.81 with a team of Rea ShehuClaire McFerrinKia Moerk and Bashor. The Sharks also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:41.76 with Bashor, Femke BackxSummer Wenger and Alexandra Ciorna.

Ciorna won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.54. She was followed by Alycia Webber and Kia Moerk.

Rea Shehu grabbed a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:12.47

Bella Seagrave was the winner of both the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.80) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.74).

Lara Wielkiewicz won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.61, followed by Annalise Stingle and Itzy Gonzalez Rojas.

Allison Naylor won the 50-yard freestyle (25.81) and Emma Koehler won the 200-yard IM (2:13.77).

Dani Chocano Fernández won the most events for the men, claiming three victories during the meet. He won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:18.52), 200-yard IM (2:01.63) and 100-yard backstroke (52.23)

Giannis Venetos won two events; the 100-yard backstroke (58.02) and the 200-yard breaststroke, which he won by over eight seconds (2:12.39).

Alejandro Pascual Del Cid also won two events. He was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.11 and the 100-yard freestyle with a 48.57.

Lovro Dodik won the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:58.84 and was followed by Marcell Matyiko/

Ethan Law had another win in the 100-yard butterfly with a 52.86.

Benny Karlsson won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:59.02.

Just like the women, the men won both the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Trajan HoustonMarcelo Chauvet, Dodik and Emilio Garcia won the 200 in 1:35.20 while the team of Chauvet, Chocano Fernández, Pascual Del Cid, and Garcia won the 400 in 3:13.76.

The Sharks return to the pool on Jan. 27 when they travel to Saint Peter’s for a dual meet.

Brooklyn, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men’s and women’s swimming teams were swept by LIU on Saturday. The men’s team was downed by LIU, 211-51. The women were defeated by the Sharks, 211-51. There was not a diving competition as part of the meet.

Freshman Justin Enser (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton) won the 200-yard freestyle by 0.03 seconds with a time of 1:49.18. He tallied a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 53.16 seconds.

Sophomore Nate Kwait (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield) was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 5:05.41. He also placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:44.91.

Redshirt junior Ryan McMahon (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:37.45. He later recorded a time of 2:23.02 to place third.

Freshman Michael Han (Auckland, New Zealand / Pakuranga College) registered a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.57 seconds.

Freshman Tim Landgraf (Lexington, N.Y.) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.45 seconds. He later placed second in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.50.

Sophomore Xavier Silaika (Rexford, Ill.) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.57. He also placed third in the 200-yard IM in 2:05.01.

The quartet of Han, junior Belal Aly (Syracuse, N.Y./PSLA at Fowler), Enser and redshirt junior Logan Bronecki (Hemlock, N.Y./Livonia) finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.43.

Freshman Madeleine O’Dea (Milton, Ontario/Milton District) touched the wall just 0.01 seconds after the winner to place second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.81. She later placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:31.40.

Junior Hannah Kellogg (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango) placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:19.24.

Freshman Kayleigh Bigwarfe (Glenmont, N.Y./Shenendehowa) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.01 seconds.

Redshirt junior MaryLauren Burke (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in 57.30 seconds.

Sophomore Brooke Sommo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) finished third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.36. She also placed third in the 200-yard IM in 2:21.57.

The teams close out the regular season on Friday at Niagara University at 5:00 p.m.
