The Big Red Men and Women competed at Ohio Statue University last night against OSU, Virginia Tech and Cleveland State. They came in third in the point standings for both the men and the women, topping the Division I Cleveland State 180-120 and 188-112, respectively.
For the women, the standout was senior Morgan Nuess who posted the Big Red’s highest finish of the evening – placing fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.23. Freshman distance swimmer Campbell Costley added her strength in the 1000 (10:22.70) and the 500 (5:03.95) taking fifth and seventh in those events, respectively.
Senior Natalie Lugg finished in the top ten in three events, taking ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:10.78), seventh in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.68) and finishing eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.49). Other top ten finishers in the meet include Taylor Johns in the 1000 freestyle (6th – 10:25.41), Carolyn Kane in the 200 (10th – 1:55.48) and Molly Willingham in the 100 backstroke (9th – 1:00.06). Marissa Bednarek finished tenth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.23), Krysta Garbarino and Emily Eiben finished seventh and tenth in the 200 butterfly at 2:09.48 and 2:12.74, respectively. Ashley Yearwood‘s 24.39 in the 50 freestyle was good for seventh place.
In the 100 freestyle, Kane took fifth (52.16) and Yearwood tenth (53.43). Ninth and tenth in the 200 backstroke went to Libby Dalziel (2:09.12) and Lucy Roth (2:09.13). Bednarek touched eighth in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:27.84. Johns took ninth in the 500 freestyle in 5:06.74. Garbarino was tenth in the 100 butterfly at 58.47. Finally, in the 200 individual medley, Michelle Howell was tenth, finishing in 2:12.58.
For the final relay, the 400 freestyle team of Kane, Yearwood, Nuess and Willingham finished third in 3:30.50.
On the men’s side of things, first-year swimmer Jack Lindell took home the top prize – fourth place in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.25. Also finishing top ten in the 200 individual medley were teammates Jackson Humphrey and Joe Brunk in fifth (1:59.09) and sixth (1:59.20) place, respectively and Timmy Smith in ninth at 2:00.68.
Other top ten finishers on the men’s side include Al Weik who placed eighth in the 1000 (9:45.20) and tenth in the 500 (4:48.45). In the 200 freestyle going 8-9-10 were Max Howes (1:44.72), Carlos Maciel (1:44.78), and Brunk (1:45.05). Sean Chabot was seventh in the 100 backstroke in 51.60. Damon Rosenburg took seventh in the 100 breaststroke to the tune of 57.15. 200 yards of butterfly saw Sam Strosnider to tenth in a time of 1:57.67. Ryan Fleming and Conrad Wuorinen went sixth and tenth in the 50 freestyle, going 21.19 and 21.55, respectively.
Diver Connor Dignan was top ten in both his events, taking fifth on one meter with a score of 308.85. On three meter he finished eighth with 307.65 points.
Spencer Fronk took ninth in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 46.93. Chabot returned for the 200 backstroke, taking tenth with a 1:55.73. Rosenburg’s return in the 200 breaststroke was also tenth, completed in 2:12.33. The 100 butterfly saw three Big Red swimmers in the top ten: Wuorinen took seventh (52.21), Strosnider was eigth (53.13) and Kevin Brinegar finished tenth (53.69).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Maciel, Fronk, Chabot and Wuorinen took third against the DI competitors, finished in a time of 3:06.15.
