Maine Women, Providence Men Claim Wins In Split Dual

Orono, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team defeated Providence by a score of 166-133 on Senior Day at Wallace Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Ashley LeClaire swept the diving events for the Black Bears, setting a new school-record in the 3m with a winning score of 298.73. LeClaire compiled a first place score of 260.85 in the 1m event.

Kayla Loughman continued her domination in the breaststroke division, taking first in both the 100-yard (1:05.88) and the 200-yard events (2:23.69).

Kennady Kilger was impressive in the sprints, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a final time of 24.85 before placing second in the 100 free at 54.72.

Madison Edwards won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.56 and took bronze in the 200 back at 2:12.71. Mia Poirier won the 200-yard butterfly at 2:11.99.

Marlee Canale was the runner-up in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.38) and 200 back (2:11.38) while Isabelle Irani took second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.02) and the 100 fly (1:00.41).

Hannah Deighan took third in the 50 free (25.07) and the 100 free (54.95) while Ainslie Boswell posted a silver medal showing in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:20.49.

Maine’s team of Edwards, Loughman, Irani, and Kilger won the 200-yard medley relay with a final time of 1:49.49.

Loughman, Kilger, Poirier, and Hannah Deighan took first place honors in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:38.11.

Orono, Maine — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team closed the regular season with a 164-124 loss to Providence on Senior Day at Wallace Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Kaden Kilger was impressive in the distance events, winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.20 and placing as the runner-up in the 1000 free at 10:00.40.

Nick Partridge won the 100-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 58.29 and took bronze in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:12.99.

Matthew Bendoraitis paced the field with a winning time of 1:56.42 in the 200-yard backstroke while Cameron Watelet won the 100-yard butterfly at 51.18. Watelet added a runner-up finish in the 50 free, touching the wall at 21.18.

Finn Devers turned in a pair of runner-up showing in the 200 free (1:44.79) and 100 free (47.97) along with Liam Hood who took silver in both the 100-yard backstroke (53.27) and the 200 back (1:57.59). Ian Mallari took second in the 200 IM at 2:01.23.

In his final home meet, Riley Clark swept the diving events with a first place medal in the 1m (276.68) and a winning score of 297.00 on the 3m board.

Watelet, Partridge, Calvin Comeau, and Devers teamed up to take second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.32) while Watelet, Devers, Max Ginsburg, and Kilger took silver in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:24.94.

ORONO, MAINE – The Providence College swimming & diving teams competed against Maine in dual meet action on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Orono, Maine. The men’s team claimed a 164-124 team victory, while the women’s team was defeated 166-133.

Both programs had impressive performances. On the men’s side, the Friars swept both relay events and took first place in eight individual events. Alex Beauchene was a multi-event winner as the top-finisher in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.49) and 100-yard freestyle (47.04). He also swam the second leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.

On the women’s side, the Friars captured seven individual races. Elizabeth Burke won multiple distance events for Providence, pacing the field in the 1,000-yard free (10:54.87) and the 500-yard free (5:16.76).
