Shchukin, Goettler net Swimming & Diving Weekly Honors for St. Bonaventure

St. Bonaventure’s Viacheslav Shchukin was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week the league announcedon Tuesday, while SBU freshman Matt Goettler earned Men’s Rookie of the Week.

Shchukin, a sophomore from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, earned his second A-10 Men’s Performer of the Week award after leading the Bonnies to a victory over La Salle this past weekend at a meet held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Shchukin recorded three first-place finishes over the weekend, including a victory in the 100-yd freestyle in which he posted a time of 44.09. His time in 100-yd free currently ranks as the 7th fastest time in the nation.

Goettler captured a first-place finish in the 100-yd breaststroke (58.60) along with a second-place finish in the 200-yd breaststroke (2:08.52) to help lead the Bonnies. The Butler, Pa., native was also a member of the 200-yd medley relay team that captured a first-place finish as well.

The Bonnies return to action on Friday, November 8 when they take on Cleveland State. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
