In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges, Garrett McCaffrey, and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.
Gretchen Walsh is having a heck of a week in Greensboro. She has become the first woman to swim under 20 seconds in a 50 free (19.95 on a relay), broken NCAA records in the 50 free (20.57) and 100 fly (48.25), and went a best time of 1:40.2 in the 200 free(#3 performer all-time).
On her morning off, Gretchen was kind enough to sit down with SwimSwam and analyze her historic swims so far at the 2024 ACC Championships.

I realllllly hope they go for the 800 relay record next year (perhaps they will finally change course and swim it at their midseason invite??). Claire Curzan could sub in for Alex and swim close to the 1:41 split, Gretchen could improve her split and dip under 1:40, Aimee Canny is still there next year and could split the same or better, and the 4th spot to replace Ella Nelson could be Leah Hayes, Bailey Hartman, or Anna Moesch who all start at UVA this coming fall.
A Kate Douglass AND Gretchen Walsh podcast on the SAME DAY????????
This is the best day of my life
2021 was a heartbreaker for her. She is determined.

F ESPN. Coleman shouldn’t go to that dumpster fire.
dont
Gosh I love Gretchen
who downvotes something like this. Someone writes something positive and you downvote it? Is it Jalen T?
I love her honest disappointment at the team not breaking the 4×200 record. Joy at how well they swam, but sad to have missed a legendary record.
It’s refreshing to hear what she actually thinks not just pat answers!
It’s also cool how she owns the high expectations and can openly say she’s proud of her accomplishments rather than being all “awww shucks” about it. I think that’s a good trait for high level athletes.
coleman I wish you asked her about AVD comments!!!
Coleman absolutely serving us with the GW and KD content today. The peoples hero.
@SwimSwam give the man a raise!
