Ryan Hoffer Knocks Over Two-Tenths Off of Dressel’s 15-16 National Age Group Record

Ryan Hoffer of Chaparral High School in Arizona has broken the National Age Group Record in prelims of the Arizona High School Division I State Championship on Friday.

The 15-year old freshman was an unbelievable 19.55 in prelims, which breaks Caeleb Dressel’s 19.82 set just a year ago in Florida.

Hoffer also split a 20.8 on the 200 medley relay and took the top seed in the 100 fly with a 48.18.

He trains in club for the Scottsdale Aquatic Club, and despite just turning 15 at the end of the summer, blew away Dressel’s record. That’s really quite scary, given how impressive Dressel’s 2012-2013 season was at 16 years old.

Hoffer’s previous best of 20.02 was done in breaking the 13-14 National Age Group Record earlier this year. He now holds the individual marks in the 13-14 50 and 100 yard freestyles, the 15-16 50 yard freestyle, plus as a part of Scottsdale’s 200 and 400 free relays in the 13-14 group.

Update: Hoffer then ledd off Chaparral’s 400 free relay with a 43.87. That was about six-tenths shy of Dressel’s record.

Finals for the meet will be held on Saturday.

LOL, a 19.55 as a frosh in high school/ 15 year old. LOL that’s unreal, just simply unreal.

I was a bit dissapointed with his LCM times this past summer. Hopefully by next summer his LCM times will be more on par with what this guy is capable of.

Congrats. We have some real interesting up and comers with Andrew, Hoffer, Seliskar, Dressel, and who knows who else will step up to the plate soon.

Congrats to him! Very impressive.
Ryan Hoffer already looks very muscular.
Here’s a photo from last year.

But 19.55 at that age is always amazing.
It looks like it will be common in the next few months.
MIchael Andrew will probably respond very quickly.

Great picture of Ryan and Coach Nate Moore. So happy for Ryan! He’s a fantastic kid as well as a great swimmer.

Hoffer swam with Nate Moore at SAC up until March. This was the same with many of the sprinters in the program. The sprint program at SAC was very weak before Coach Moore developed these guys. Hoffer went 20.0 and 44 in March as a 14 year old. I would say that classifies as “taking off.”

Ryan Hoffer has been swimming with Kevin Zacher since March. That’s when he really took off. The kid is really talented but it takes a talented coach to keep him growing, getting faster and motivated. Coach Zacher has a fantastic program and Ryan is one of the many other talented swimmers blossoming there. Can’t wait to see how much faste he will get!!!

I hope everyone realizes that Kevin’s wife is “SWIMMER”. Of course she’s going to say how great Kevin is. Give the Credit to Ryan who works his butt off every day instead of your husband. That is incredibly selfish in my opinion. And by the way, Nate Moore was the one who motivated Hoffer to do these incredible things. Scottsdale Aquatic Club is going downhill. Hoffer is one hell of a swimmer! Congrats Ryan, it was all you!

Classless comment and I am a PSC member. For you to mention his wife, who happens to be a very good friend of mine and tear down the club for your own self interest (whatever that may be) is nothing but childish. Get off the board you troll or support a great swim by a great swimmer for a great program.

Congrats to Ryan and EVERYONE involved, Kevin, Nate and Bob Platt.

Too fast at 15 years old, hopefully not an early bloomer.

Too fast? Too fast is never a problem, and if it is it’s one I wish I had. Seriously though, he’s a FRESHMAN in hs. Where’s the progression from here? Should we expect 18s as a junior? That swim is absolutely insane.

I thought he swam for SAC’s age group coach and not for Kevin?
