The North Carolina State University women topped Duke and Miami (FL) and the Wolfpack men beat Duke in Raleigh, NC last night.
Zina Grogg won twice on the women’s side for NC State, taking the 100 fly in 53.96 and the 100 back in 55.02. That 100 fly is a top-10 time in the nation thus far.
Duke’s Christine Wixted won twice for the Devils, sweeping the breaststroke events with times of 1:03.23 in the 100 and 2:17.35 in the 200.
Miami’s women also picked up two wins from Kara McCormack in both diving events.
For the men, NC State swept every individual event except diving, where Duke star Nick McRory took the 1m and 3m events.
Jonathan Boffa was impressive for NC State, winning the 100 free in 44.31, a few tenths off his big swim against Florida State a few weeks ago. He also won the 50 free with a time of 20.56. Ian Bishop picked up two more wins for the Wolfpack. His 100 breast time of 54.83 puts him 8th in the nation at the moment. He also won the 200 breast with a 2:01.24.
North Carolina State won both 400 medley relays to open the meet. The women’s team of Alexia Zevnik, Lauren Poli, Grogg, and Riki Bonnema won in 3:43.05. The men followed suit, as Andreas Schiellerup, Bishop, David Williams, and Boffa won in 3:15.70.
NC State’s Rachel Muller took the 1000 free in a touchout. Her time of 10:15.34 bettered her teammate Kendall Pena by four tenths. Addisynn Bursch won the 200 in 1:51.83. Lydia Jones was victorious in the 200 fly in 2:02.31, completing a 1-2-3 sweep for NC State.
Duke’s Lauren Weaver won the 50 with a time of 22.86. Her teammate Maddie Rusch got in just ahead of her in the 100 in 50.76, giving Duke the top two spots.
NC State took the 200 back (Hannah Freyman in 2:00.56), 500 free (Kristin Connors, 5:00.57) and 400 IM (Kelsey Liu, 4:26.77) before claiming the final 200 free relay to close the meet. The team of Groff, Freyman, Ashlyn Koletic, and Bonnema won in 1:33.06.
The Wolfpack men swept the swimming events and the relays. The team of Scott Johnson, Jason Deana, Chad Harrington, and Ryan Wilkinson won the 400 free relay.
Schiellerup was impressive in the 100 back, winning in 48.69. Another big swim was Christian McCurdy, who won the 200 fly in 1:47.44.
Adam Linker claimed the 1000 free in 9:31.72. Matthew Thomas won the 200 free in 1:40.65, Mike Camper the 200 back in 1:49.19, Alex Hamilton the 500 in 4:38.89, Dylan Payne the 100 fly in 50.66, and Michael Miller the 400 IM in 4:09.75.
