Competitors had an early wake up call for the 2013 FINA World Cup stop in Tokyo, as a magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Tokyo this morning at approximately 7:30 AM local time.
According to Yahoo, there were no immediate reports of damage, though some of Japan’s bullet trains were shut down as a precautionary matter.
Fortunately for the swimmers, there was little disruption to the schedule. With the prelims session starting at 9AM, it was about time for everyone to awake anyway. We’ve not received any reports of any changes to the competition plan.
Yep….. It was definitely rockin’ on the 28th. I think I was more scared of how bad it might get, as opposed the amount it was shaking when I woke up. It’s always so amazing to hear the sounds of a building during a quake. Weird groans inside the walls and such…. They stopped the elevators at the hotel for about an hour or so for inspections. Told us it’s best to stay in our rooms…..
I was on the 28th floor of the Hilton Hotel. Almost rolled me out of bed.
Meet was fun last night, too bad there weren’t too many Americans in the finals though……
I know how you felt. I was on the 34th floor of a building when a 6.1 earthquake hit. But then again, I’ve experienced several 5+ earthquake in my life, there are so many where I live.
