Virginia senior Alex Walsh swam the #2 time ever in the 200 IM last night (1:49.20) to take her 3rd NCAA title in that event in 4 years. Hear what she has to say about bouncing back after a “less than optimal” season in 2023.
I’ve been worried that she’s vulnerable to Huske at 200 medley and Weyant at 400 at trials. However, the emphasis on breaststroke is a terrific way to expand the margin heading into freestyle.
Her breaststroke is definitely longer and more relaxed but still needs a bit more of each, IMO. Douglass is so gliding and patient, allowing the stroke to finish. Alex is getting there but pulls up and can get a bit poppy late in each lap.
So happy for Alex. From this interview, it sounds like she’s due for a drop in the 200 breast.
Please come back! Don’t leave sis!
She won’t be back. She’s accomplished everything she needed to (and then some) and new challenges await…
she’s so mature! great to see her in a better head space than last year. very excited for what’s to come
So interesting to see her call last year a disappointment. Weird since she went best times in her 3 NCAA events, yet I think all of us agreed it felt like she could do more
