Josh Liendo And Leon Marchand Now #2 And #3 All-Time Performers In 100 Free

2024 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Josh Liendo of Florida and Leon Marchand of Arizona State are now the #2 and #3 performers of all-time in the SCY 100 freestyle.

Liendo swam a 42.20 to win the individual event on the final night of 2024 Men’s NCAAs while Marchand led off Arizona State’s 400 free relay that went on to set an NCAA record. Both swimmers sit only behind Caeleb Dressel who holds the NCAA and American records in a 39.90 from 2018 NCAAs.

All-Time Top 7 Performers Men’s SCY 100 Free

  1. Caeleb Dressel 39.90 (2018)
  2. Josh Liendo 40.20 (2024)
  3. Leon Marchand 40.28 (2024)
  4. Jordan Crooks 40.39 (2024)
  5. Gui Caribe 40.55 (2024)
  6. Jack Alexy 40.59 (2024)
  7. Chris Guiliano 40.62 (2024)

Not only did Liendo and Marchand make history today but Tennessee’s Jordan Crooks and Gui Caribe did as well becoming the #4 and #5 performers of all-time. Like Marchand, Crooks swam a 40.39 to lead off tonight’s relay. Caribe swam a 40.55 in finals of the individual 100 free to finish 2nd behind Liendo.

Cal’s Jack Alexy became the #6 performer all time today with a 40.59 to finish behind Liendo and Caribe in finals.

The 100 freestyle has had a massive progression this year. Last year it took a 40.28 to win the individual event at NCAAs (Liendo won the event) but 2nd was a 40.92 from Alexy. Tonight, the top five finishers in the individual 100 free were all under the 40.92 mark. Then, the relay had four sub-41 lead offs including Marchand’s 40.28 and Crooks’s 40.39.

If Marchand swam the 100 free he could probably break the world record. Waiting for this moment so I can talk to my therapist.

Legitimately, which events could Marchand not be able to win at NCAAs? 50 free, 1650?

I think the 50 free is the only event he couldn’t win. After his 4:02 500 I think he has the range to go up to the 1650.

Just think. Marchand went over a second faster on the backstroke leg in the 200 IM to the guy who just sent the American record in the 200 back.

There’s nothing this guy can’t do.

By 200 free relay split, do you mean split on the 800 free relay? I don’t think he’s been 17 in a 50 split yet

Yeah so this is what did it for me for making Leon the greatest SCY swimmer ever everything he’s done has been insane but to nearly break one of dressel’s big 3 was something I didn’t think would happen and the range of Leon is on a level no one else currently can hit 40.28-4:02.31-breast-fly-back-IM no one else has this versatility of being in the all time list like this right now

#2-7 all in one year is wild. (And Guiliano went like 6 hundredths slower here, so nearly all at the same meet, yeesh.)
