James Guy on Chinese Doping Scandal: “It opens the door to so many other things”

2x Olympic Champion and now 3x British Olympian James Guy spoke with SwimSwam after it came to light over the weekend that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for TMZ in January of 2021. Early in the week, Guy had tweeted “Ban them all and never compete again” and expressed similar frustration today, namely in WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) for allowing such a situation to occur.

Thanks for the fantastic interview James Guy – I know there’s both positive and negative reactions but what is great is your honest answers and feelings on many subjects but including the current situation of the Chinese doping scandal. It’s always refreshing getting real feedback and not a media savy put together statement. Goodluck for the Olympics I’ll be hoping you get your 3 to 4 relays.

I would like to know who made a SWAM message to a certain American athlete telling them they had been promoted to gold, and then a bunch of international bodies denied the news in such a farce

There isn’t an article yet but Wang Shun just went 1:55.3 at Chinese nationals in the 2 IM his fastest time ever outside of a international meet.

Also btw doesn’t sound like WADA or World Aquatics is gonna budge on the doping problem within China. Unfortunately the only thing that could happen is podium protests at the games and would not be shocked if they occur especially with the athletes that were on the list.

I see that we’ve changed the narrative from “only performs in China” to “only performs in Asian countries”.

Only a very shallow and completely dishonest mind dismisses criticism by shouting “Racism!” You clearly can’t defend China’s long and sordid history of doping their state-sponsored athletes, so you deflect with this sort of nonsense.

Why didn’t you comment on the slower times at the chinese nationals?

If Jimmy Guy has a million fans, then I am one of them.
If Jimmy Guy has ten fans, then I am one of them.
If Jimmy Guy has only one fan then that is me.
If Jimmy Guy has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth.
If the world is against Jimmy Guy, then I am against the world.

LONG LIVE JIMMY GUY

Man, it is your personal choice in terms of who you want to worship.

But I really hope you are strong enough to bear the consequence of the PTSD if your delusion about James Guys turns out totally wrong.

Do not forget about the Lance Armstrong case and many other similar cases as well. Once upon a time, they were the heroes and worshipped by millions.

Stay rational!

everyone with a TUE should have the information made public as there are rumors all the top British swimmers are given inhalers even if they don’t need them

Data on TUEs overall, I can maybe see as a possibility just academically. But individual TUE information shouldn’t and won’t ever be public.
