Job Summary:
The Head Age Group Coach will lead the 12 and under Age Group swimmers who participate on the Junior and Developmental Squads to assure growth, both in numbers or participants, and in profitability of the program. The Head Age Group Coach will provide support for all aspects of the Team and Aquatic Programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Teach approximately 4-6 hours of group swim lessons in order to maintain a close relationship with swim lesson coaches so that we can matriculate children from basic learn to swim lessons, into development of stroke techniques, and then to move into the age group swim team.
- Under supervision of the Head Coach, develop and implement the training practice plan for Junior and Developmental Squads
- Attend swim meets as assigned by the Head Coach
- Assist with the supervision of non-team UVAC meets such as college championships, Dartmouth Invite, VSA, and others
- Coach on deck for all Junior and Developmental Squad practices
- Co-ordinate the accuracy of the age group participants and the on-line registration system with the Team Administrator
- Responsible for effective utilization, evaluation of and re-certification of age group coaches
- Submit a brief weekly report to the Head Coach detailing swimmer attendance, meet results, practice notes, equipment issues, or any other important information
- Manage the team web site content to assure that it is always current
- Inform our Communications Manager about any age group events that need to be communicated to our members (team practice schedule changes, lane availability changes, meet results)
- Post photos and program content to the Facebook Fans page, team website and YouTube at least twice a month
- Review our SEO for swim team to assure we appear in at least the top 3. This must be done quarterly
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or ED
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate and train other age group coaches and volunteer coaches
- Ability to organize projects, prepare budget and timetables and deliver cost effective results
- Effective verbal and written communication with children and parents
- Computer literacy with Word, Excel, Power Point, Pagemaker or similar programs
- Dynamic, high-energy personnel skills and ability to relate well with children and their parents.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Level 2 ASCA coach
- 4+ years of Coaching experience
- Experience with personnel management and budgeting
- College degree in the related exercise field, a plus
Physical and Schedule Requirements:
The position requires travel to swim meets and a mixture of days, nights, weekend and holiday work. There is no typical workweek as practices may be held in mornings, afternoons, and evenings depending on children’s ages and seasonal variations.
