Swim Team Coach – Boston YMCA BlueFins

Location: 36 Arthur B Lord Drive, Reading, MA, USA

Under the supervision of the Head Swim Coach, this position is assists with swim team practices and swim meets as needed. Nights and Sundays required.

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
  •  Provide quality and consistency in all assigned workouts throughout all levels of ability.
  • Attend practices and weekend swim meets as needed.
  • Plan & implement workouts for each practice group as instructed by the Head Coach.
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.
  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • No experience necessary, training to be completed on site. Competitive swimming or coaching experience a plus.
Administrative Duties – In addition to coaching we are seeking candidates to help keep our team organized behind the scenes including:
  • Registration and billing of team members
  • Attendance and roster management
  • Parent communication
  • Assist with organizing team hosted meets and events as needed

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.
  • At times, be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  •  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Primarily evening and weekends, some weekends will require early morning practices or meets.
  • Travel will be necessary to meets and potentially practice sites.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
  •  Child Abuse Prevention (within first four weeks of employment)
  • Respect in the Workplace (Sexual Harassment Prevention)
  • CPR, First Aid, O2
  • YMCA Principles of  Competitive Swimming & Diving
  • USA Swimming Certification (as required by location)
  • Safety Training for Coaches or YMCA Lifeguarding
Previous experience in Customer Relations Management software and TeamUnify a plus but not required.
