The initial entry lists for the 2024 Australian Olympic Trials have been released, with scratches accepted through Thursday (May 30) before the competition gets underway from June 10-15 at the Brisbane Aquatic Center.
Headlining the psych sheets are defending Olympic champions Kaylee McKeown, Ariarne Titmus, Emma McKeon and Zac Stubblety-Cook, along with 2023 world champions Mollie O’Callaghan, Kyle Chalmers, Cameron McEvoy and Sam Short.
McKeown has entered five events, her expected individual lineup in Paris, the 100 back, 200 back—the two events she’s the defending Olympic champion—and 200 IM, and the 100 and 200 free, which she may end up racing with a relay spot in mind.
Despite becoming the third-fastest swimmer of all-time in the 400 IM earlier this year, McKeown had declared she won’t swim the event at the Olympics, and that holds true as the 22-year-old opted not to enter it in Brisbane.
Among the other reigning Olympic champions, there aren’t any other major surprises in terms of entries. Titmus is entered in the 100/200/400/800 free, McKeon is in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, and Stubblety-Cook is in both men’s breaststroke events.
O’Callaghan has notably not entered the 200 back, opting for the 50/100/200 free and the 100 back, while Chalmers won’t race the 200 free, going with the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly.
McEvoy has kept his options open for the 400 free relay with an entry in the 100 free to go along with the 50 free, while Short has the expected 200/400/800/1500 free in his lineup.

The biggest name missing from the psych sheets is Mitch Larkin, the 30-year-old double Olympic medalist who raced just last month at the Australian Open Championships on the Gold Coast.
Sydney Morning Herald reporter Tom Decent indicated that Larkin is still expected to swim.
Entry lists are out for Aus Olympic trials (June 10 to 15). No surprises.
Chalmers enters 100 fly, not 200 free. Could still get picked for 4×200 but unlikely he’ll do.
Mitch Larkin‘s name isn’t there but have been told he will swim at trials. https://t.co/sDzBJF2KFT

The meet also features a few international swimmers, including Japan’s Rikako Ikee (50/100 free, 100 fly) and Daiya Seto (400 IM).
Larkin, Groves, Lello, Andrea and Brinkworth all added to the final entries as well as German Josha Salchow

I feel like mollie will go sub 52 and sub 1.53 in the 100m and 200m free at trials or should she save it for Paris. She seems to perform well in pressure situations.
In the last 3 years, Mollie swam her PBs during the big meet: 2021 Tokyo, 2022 Budapest and Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and 2023 Fukuoka.
If stick to the pattern, she’ll save her best for Paris.
Her 100 PB was at trials in 2022.
Having read most comments on here, I have a feeling that McEvoy is gonna surprise everyone (in a good way) in the 100 free.
I have a feeling it’ll be the opposite and he’ll use the individual 100 heats to execute a 50.
Cam reads SwimSwam
Cmon mate.
What’s the deal 🙂
How do you know he reads Swimswam?
Dont all swimmers read SwimSwam?
If I were elite swimmer I wouldn’t read Swimswam.
I mean, if I was an elite swimmer (I for one think holding my own in the fast lane of tiverton pool is fairly elite lol), I would read swimswam, might not read the comments section though…..
How fast do you think McEvoy can swim the 100m freestyle? I think I can swim 47.8 to 48.4 seconds.
48.50 tops, fast enough to swim 4×100 free prelims but not final. Similar to what Earvin did in 2016.
Depends if the speed work he has done for the 50m has assisted his 100m?
My feeling is that he will around the 48.50 mark which is pretty much where he left this event off back at the 2021 Trials.
I hope I am wrong
If O’Callaghan manages to go 57 in the bk their relay should change to O’Callaghan/Mckeown/Mckeon/next best freestyle swimmer honestly think McKeown could put up a better br split then the actual br swimmers
Kaylee is unlikely to be our fastest breaststroker after trials.
not significantly (if at all) better than ramsay, who is only 0.01 slower than mckeown’s pb. this idea that mckeown should swim the breast leg really should die out. it won’t fix the medley relay and it’s not even the best option at this point
It’d be fun to see it some time if it makes sense but it probably won’t this year.
Amen !!! Whilst a very competent breaststroker; in truth she is only really “on par at best” with the other primary options; and NOT some magic cure-all for AUS breaststroke issues for the W4XMED.
IF MOC somehow drops a 57mid 100back AND no one swims a WA A time in 100brs then this could actually be seriously considered but as it stands at this point; its a desperate measure that probably leaves you slightly worse off than if they’d left it alone.
Ramsay’s PB that she set a month ago is 0.01 faster than Kaylee’s PB. Very unlikely Kaylee is our best choice in Paris. But hey, if it happens then that could be fun
Does anyone have insight on Jenna Forrester and her illness/whatever is causing the recent conversation?
Not that I know of. She skipped worlds and then didn’t compete again until April where she was slow but had a massive program, which you probably wouldn’t do if you were sick or injured. She could be totally fine or she could miss the team 🤷🏼♂️
It’s very possible she is healthy but was unwell and/or injured previously and is now trying to catch up on missed work. That may explain all the mileage she did at champs; taking on a big programme is probably the way to go if you’re taking time out of training in that scenario.
It looks like she has some pretty significant recent scarring on one her arms in photos from the St Peter’s Paris simulation morning… might have broken/injured her wrist or arm in that case and is now trying to catch up on missed work
Mvevoy will swim 47.93 in the prelims of the 100 free. He will scratch the semis of the 100 and focus of the 50. But I really think he wants to swim the 4x100Fr relay even if it is only the heats.
There’s no semis and he’s not aiming for a spot in the 4×100.

From memory, McEvoy mentioned recently that he wants to support the Mens 4 x 100m Relay.
Set a time in the morning and job done.
Paris Relay is Day1?
50m Free is Day 6?
It seems it could work considering he wouldn’t swim for 6 days if he just did the 50m Free
I remember him saying that he wanted to be on the 4×100 free relay even if it was only in the prelims. He said this on the Brett Hawk podcast 1 or 2 weeks after becoming world champion in 2023
This is what I had read/heard that he was training for the 100 free to help out the relay.
